A thoughtful exhibition at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland - Visions of Conflict: Rendering Dissent - shrewdly questions America's use of military power to resolve international disputes, but some artists more than others take full advantage of the fertile topic's charged relevance. The show's centerpiece is a huge, oil-on-canvas triptych by painter Leslie Smith III that mockingly rebukes President Bush, his father, former President George H.W. Bush, former Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell for their roles in embroiling America in the Iraq debacle.

It has been a decade since Mary Pat Seurkamp arrived in Baltimore to become the first permanent lay president of the College of Notre Dame of Maryland. "It doesn't seem possible 10 years have gone by," Seurkamp, 60, said from her office on the North Charles Street campus. "It has been so busy, but a good sort of busy." Seurkamp has presided over Notre Dame at a time when women's colleges across the country, and here in Maryland, have been admitting men, a move seen as necessary for survival.

The College of Notre Dame scored an 11-2 victory over Hood College (4-9) yesterday in Aurora, N.Y., for the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference title, completing a 12-year undefeated streak in the conference. The AWCC is disbanding after this season. The Gators (15-2) were 68-0 in conference play and won all of the conference's titles. Men Gettysburg 11, Washington College 4 -- Four goals by Joe Brody led host Gettysburg (14-2) to a convincing victory over Washington College (11-6) in the Centennial Conference championship.

May 5 is more than just the date of Adele "Deli" Strummer's appearance at College of Notre Dame. It's also the anniversary of her release from a Nazi concentration camp. Strummer has since worked as a medical researcher at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York and at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. She is also president of the Zarhar Remembrance Fund. Join Strummer on Saturday as she recalls her experience as a Holocaust survivor. Pianist Nancy Roldan and violinist Jose Miguel Cueto will also perform.

Easter weekend is upon us, and an egg hunt is a great way for children to celebrate this holiday. Egg hunts are great to have right in your own backyard. But who says you can be a part of only one event? If you and your children feel like getting away from home, here are a few egg hunts taking place this weekend. Cromwell Valley Park A free Easter egg hunt will take place today in Cromwell Valley Park, on Sherwood Farm, 2002 Cromwell Bridge Road, Parkville. The egg hunts are divided by age. Ages 3-4 will go in search of their eggs at 10:30 a.m., followed by ages 5-6 at 10:45 a.m., ages 7-8 at 11 a.m. and ages 9-10 at 11:15 a.m. Other events include a jelly-bean-counting contest, 4-H Rabbit Club presentations and a chance to meet the Easter bunny.

Sister Marie Augustine Dowling, a retired member of the mathematics department of the College of Notre Dame of Maryland, died of cancer Wednesday at her order's motherhouse in the Woodbrook section of Baltimore County. She was 82. Born Helen Marie Dowling in Baltimore, she was a 1942 graduate of Trinity Preparatory School in Ilchester and earned a mathematics degree from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland and a master's degree from the Catholic University of America. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1944 and received the name Marie Augustine.

Sue Bane of Bel Air recently received the Distinguished Staff Award from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland at the annual Notre Dame Day celebration. Bane is office manager in the athletics department and coordinator of Camp Notre Dame. She has worked at the College of Notre Dame for eight years. The Distinguished Staff Award is given annually to a staff member who exhibits outstanding competence and performance, accepts challenges beyond the expected, shows a positive attitude, serves the community, empowers others with the Notre Dame spirit and contributes to the college's mission.

Anne Arundel County schools superintendent Kevin M. Maxwell yesterday tapped a "co-principal" at Annapolis High School as it undergoes a staff overhaul and tries to prevent a state takeover. Joan Valentine, who retired in January as Meade High School principal and previously worked at Annapolis High, will serve under Principal Donald R. Lilley as he fills 144 teaching positions for next school year and puts together a reform plan to turn around the struggling school. Her job takes effect Monday.

So, what makes the Hunt Valley Antiques Show Preview Party so young and fresh, even in its 37th year? "We do!" said event co-chair Kathleen Jensen with a laugh. She may have been joking, but she may also have been right. She and co-chair Cara Shea Kohler headed up the 60-member committee that put together this annual fundraiser for Family and Children's Services of Central Maryland. With many of the organizers younger than 40 years old, the combo of young and old proved to be the ticket.
