Contrary to recent rumors, Dante Jones is not leaving the Edmondson football team he has coached for eight years. Earlier this month a rumor began circulating, and was posted on The Baltimore Sun's high school sports message board, that Jones was leaving the Red Storm to start a football team at CCBC-Catonsville, but Jones said Friday that the root of the rumor is his involvement with a group of coaches trying to bring junior college football to...

Best move, absolutely Teddy Greenstein Chicago Tribune The four-team seeded playoff is absolutely the way to go. I only wish that instead of running through 2025, the deal would last until 3025. Why? Because the first time we get a paper-thin margin between the No. 4 and No. 5 teams, tons of fans will howl for an expansion to an 8-team playoff. That would be a terrible move — too many games for the unpaid players and a step toward watering down the regular season, like college basketball.

Sometime around 2020 - maybe a little sooner, maybe a little later - we will get sick of the four-team playoff. The gap between the No. 4 team in the country and the No. 5 team in the country will become too narrow, or it will become too hard for a mid-major school to crack the top 4, or maybe the massive amounts of money that are about to flow through the ranks of college football will become too much, as college presidents will sit back...

College football may be the sport of legendary institutions, but "NCAA Football 13" is all about individual stars. As we glimpse in the game's downloadable demo, the "Heisman Challenge" mode repackages the existing "Road to Glory" mode into a flagship addition to the game. By co-opting recent Heisman winners like Robert Griffin, III and legends like Desmond Howard "NCAA" is geared toward a single-player experience that follows the journey on the path to stardom. While there's certainly more to the game that what is available in the demo, the ability to play three games with six different teams allows a sneak peek at what awaits gridiron gamers next month.

Former Ravens offensive lineman Jonathan Ogden is considered a strong candidate to be part of the 2013 Pro Football Hall of Fame class. But before that, Ogden learned that he'll be enshrined into another Hall of Fame. The former UCLA star was one of 14 players to be selected for the College Hall of Fame. He'll be inducted in September. Ogden was a four-year starter at left tackle for the Bruins. In his final season at UCLA, Ogden was awarded the Outland Trophy, given to college football's top lineman, and named a unanimous first-team All-American. He was then drafted by the Ravens with the fourth overall pick in the 1996 draft.

The 2012 college football season is still months away, but those who oversee its coverage at The Sporting News did their best this week to turn some of the attention away from the NFL's concussion controversy, the NHL's Stanley Cup playoffs, the NBA's latest playoff injury and Josh Hamilton's home run derby at Camden Yards. Ranking the 125 coaches of Football Bowl Subdivision teams was a pretty ambitious undertaking , and I'm sure it will cause quite a bit of chatter in places like Tuscaloosa, Ala., where Nick Saban was ranked at the top as well as other college towns where the folks are still dissecting spring practice and recruiting classes.

Many of you know I was fortunate to play high school football at Gilman and college football at Princeton. What most of you do not know is that I worked as a graduate assistant on the Wake Forest football staff to pay for my room and board during law school. These experiences instilled in me a strong sense of the appropriate role of academics and athletics in our secondary schools and colleges. So it should come as no surprise that I have a strong opinion as to the increasingly aggressive calls to pay college athletes in revenue-producing sports.

When Martray McKesson takes the field at McDaniel College in the fall, he won't just be the first Reginald F. Lewis graduate to play college football - he'll be the first to play any college sport. The school's first athletic recruit in its 10-year existence, McKesson not only excelled on both sides of the ball during the Falcons' 8-2 football season, he also excelled in the classroom. With his 3.6 GPA, he's ranked second in his class. First-year Lewis coach Donte' Foster said McKesson was an excellent example for his peers in working to overcome a 2-8 season in 2010.
