Essex Community College holds its fifth annual Job Fair on May 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Community College Center.The fair is for area college students and Essex Community College alumni.About 75 area employers are expected to be interviewing prospective employees for full-time and part-time jobs and summer positions.The college is at 7201 Rossville Blvd. For more information, call the job placement office at 522-1553.

Spring Fling '91, the annual three-day fun-fest presented by WesternMaryland College for the local community, will be on campus Thursday, April 25 through Saturday, April 27.Featured performers includecomedian Phil Nee, the a capella quartet JQ and the Bandits, the reggae band Mama Jama, and novelty magician Steve Trash.There also will be food and game booths run by student organizations. All events are free and open to the public.Please note that all outdoor events listed below have a rain location:* Thursday, April 25, Spring Fling Kick-Off -- Contemporary folk singer/musician Teresa, appearing in the Decker College Center Pub, 9:30 p.m.* Friday, April 26 -- Monty Python's The Meaning of Life, screened outside Winslow Center, 9 p.m. The Loft, five-piece progressive dance band,in the Decker College Center Forum, 10:30 p.m.* Saturday, April 27, Spring Fling -- All events are scheduled to take place in The Quadrangle between the Daniel MacLea and Albert Norman Ward residence halls, with a rain location in the lower level of Decker College Center.

Perspectives on the history of the U.S. civil rights movement will be the topic of a lecture by Julian Bond, former Georgia state senator, 1968 Democratic vice presidential nominee, and a nationally recognized leader of the drive for equality for more than 20 years.The event, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, is part of Western Maryland College's Black History Celebration 1991. It is free and open to the public.Seating is limited in McDaniel Lounge, so attendees are advised to come early. Joslyn Martin, WMC Class of 1991 and president of the Black Student Union, will introduce Bond.

Toys R Us has opened a two-level store near Owings Mills. The store, with the addition of a basement level, is 10,000 square feet larger than the chain's typical store.United Way of Central Maryland has established a scholarship fund in the name of Carole B. Baker at Anne Arundel Community College. The scholarship is to be awarded annually to a displaced homemaker. United Way also is offering year-round leadership training to all Central Maryland non-profit organizations.
