After a couple months of speculation and negotiation, the Orioles have announced their coaching staff. DeMarlo Hale, the former Boston Red Sox bench and third base coach, will be joining the Orioles as third base coach and infield instructor, and Bill Castro, the longtime Milwaukee Brewers instructor, will be the Orioles' new bullpen coach. Hale, 50, was on Orioles manager Buck Showalter's coaching staff in Texas from 2003 to 2005. It took an abysmal 60 minutes of offense, and a performance that Ravens coach John Harbaugh admitted was about as "bad as you can play" for the familiar questions to return, and the doubt to seep in after what had been an encouraging start to the 2011 season. Is quarterback Joe Flacco good enough to take the Ravens where they want to go? Can the offensive line provide him enough time and the wide receivers give him enough separation? Why isn't offensive coordinator Cam Cameron getting running back Ray Rice the ball more?

When John Harbaugh walked off Heinz Field last January after a playoff loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, he never imagined that the Ravens would go through such a dramatic transition period. Since then, the Ravens have fired two offensive assistant coaches, lost another one to the Oakland Raiders, promoted a defensive coordinator, waived three of their best players and lost three more starters through free agency. "No, I wouldn't be honest to say anything other than no, I didn't expect this," Harbaugh said.

Manager Buck Showalter finally completed his 2011 staff Tuesday by selecting a bench coach who spent years battling the Orioles at Memorial Stadium. Looking for a quality infield instructor with the added bonus of managerial experience, Showalter hired an old friend, former New York Mets manager Willie Randolph. It's a reunion of sorts for Showalter, who gave Randolph his first big league coaching job with the New York Yankees in 1994. "It's kind of surreal in a way; as a young coach, I learned the ropes as a third base coach under Buck Showalter," said Randolph, who agreed to a one-year deal with the Orioles after spending two seasons as bench coach with the Milwaukee Brewers.
