Aside from former defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano leaving to coach the Indianapolis Colts, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said at Friday's introdutory press conference for new defensive coordiantor Dean Pees that he'd like the rest of his staff this year to return. However, he didn't dismiss the possibility that he could still lose a couple of his staff members. There has been some speculation that defensive line coach Clarence Brooks, who has now been passed over in consecutive seasons for the defensive coordinator post, could head to Indianapolis to work under Pagano.

Michael Griffith Harford Tech Griffith has been slowly building the Harford Tech program during his four years as coach, and everything came into place this season. The Cobras won the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference title and then the region before taking second in the Class 1A state meet, losing to Smithsburg by four points. The school got an outdoor track for the first time, and Griffith said that was a big reason for the success. "It helped a ton — it really did," he said.

John, Jim - or Jack Dan Pompei Chicago Tribune You couldn't go wrong with either Harbaugh. In fact, you probably couldn't go wrong with their father Jack, either, or John and Jim's brother-in-law Tom Crean, the men's basketball coach at Indiana. All Jim has done is make it to the NFL's final four in his first year and the NFL's final two in his second year. He has taken bold gambles, developed quarterbacks and presided over an unpredictable offense. All John has done is make the playoffs in each of his five years as a head coach, and gone 8-4 in the postseason.

Three days after he confirmed that offensive coordinator Cam Cameron will be retained, Ravens coach John Harbaugh gave his offense -- and Joe Flacco -- an additional voice, hiring Jim Caldwell as the team's quarterbacks coach. Caldwell, who was fired two weeks ago as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts after the completion of a 2-14 campaign, has been a quarterback coach for 15 seasons, most recently for Peyton Manning and the Colts from 2002 to 2008. "After spending considerable time with Jim over the last week, we think he will be an excellent fit with our team, coaching the quarterbacks and helping with our offense," Harbaugh said.

A longtime coach at the Baltimore swim club that has turned out several Olympians — including Michael Phelps — resigned after an allegation of "inappropriate conduct" with a female athlete was revealed, officials of the sport's national governing body said Friday. The North Baltimore Aquatic Club reported the coach, who was not identified, to swimming authorities in October 2011, according to USA Swimming, the Colorado-based governing body. The coach was forced out of the position within 48 hours after club officials became aware of the allegation last fall, and the club contacted Baltimore County authorities, a source with knowledge of the situation said.

Recently, it has become en vogue for major league clubs to hire two hitting coaches. The Braves, Cardinals and Padres all employed assistant hitting coaches last season, while the Phillies last month hired former major leaguer Wally Joyner to assist newly hired hitting coach Steve Henderson. Last week, the Dodgers hired John Valentin as assistant hitting coach under new hitting coach Mark McGwire. New Red Sox manager John Farrell has said he's considering hiring two hitting coaches to his yet-to-be-completed staff.

Magic will make change Ira Winderman Sun Sentinel Of course Stan Van Gundy won't keep his job with the Magic, and he's coaching them in name only now, simply collecting checks until someone, perhaps his "source" in the front office, puts him out of his misery by issuing him his sought-after golden pink slip. The Magic will do what seemingly every team in sports does, go from a hard-driving coach to an easygoing type in a bid to change the culture and appease the restless.

John Lowe Winters Mill John Lowe isn't ready to use the "D" word when he describes the wrestling program at Winters Mill. Other people, however, find it easier to call the Falcons a dynasty. For the third straight season, Lowe led Winters Mill to a Class 2A-1A state tournament title. He also led the Falcons to their second straight state dual meet championship. With his team performing at such a consistently high level, Lowe earned Coach of the Year honors for the second consecutive year.
