State health officials have suspended surgical abortion procedures at three clinics, including one in Baltimore where a patient suffered cardiac arrest and later died at a hospital. The physician who performed the abortion at Associates in OB/GYN Care LLC on North Calvert Street wasn't certified in CPR and a defibrillator at the facility did not work, state officials said in a letter Friday to the General Assembly. Although the cardiac arrest was caused by underlying health conditions and not the abortion, investigators found that it raised questions whether doctors at the clinic can handle an abortion that goes wrong.

Dr. Nikita Levy and the Johns Hopkins clinic where he worked have no records of complaints against them, according to state health officials. But just who is responsible for oversight of the East Baltimore Medical Center where he is alleged to have secretly recorded his patients? Two state health regulatory bodies have the authority to investigate complaints that might have been received about Levy or the center, health officials said. But neither has broad authority over clinics like the East Baltimore center.

Valencia's name was listed on records obtained by Yahoo Sports from a now-defunct clinic named Biogenesis, which the Miami New Times previously reported had provided PEDs to several major leaguers, including New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez. Major League Baseball has been investigating Biogenesis and its owner, Anthony Bosch.

The second annual Detroit Tigers & St. Frances Academy Youth Baseball Clinic will take place on Feb. 16 in the school's gymnasium from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Former Detroit Tigers outfielder Willie Horton will be the special guest for the clinic, which is open to coaches and players of all ages. It is free for children 17 years old and under and adults are asked to donate $25. A number of Harford County residents, young and old, received flu vaccinations at a free clinic held in Bel Air Friday afternoon by the Harford County Health Department. One of the workers at the clinic said there had been a steady stream of people during the first portion of the four-hour clinic, which was held in the Harford County Council's chambers. Both FluMist and flu shots were available. Friday's clinic was the first of two scheduled in Harford this weekend. Upper Chesapeake Health is offering a flu vaccination clinic at Harford Mall Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m inside the main mall building near Yankee Candle.

By the time Baltimore Behavioral Health Inc. sought bankruptcy protection Dec. 28, the once-high-flying drug treatment and mental health clinic had been showing signs of financial trouble for two years. But even as the private nonprofit's debts mounted, members of the family that long oversaw the West Pratt Street clinic continued to be well paid, recently released tax records show. In 2011, five family members received $1.1 million in salary and contract payments, according to records filed with the Internal Revenue Service in September.

Fourteen members of the defending national champion Loyola men's lacrosse team took time from their holiday break today to travel to Newtown, Conn., and lead a youth clinic in the town rocked by a mass shooting last month at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The trip was the idea of freshman defenseman  Jason Crane (Chesapeake-Anne Arundel). Players departed Maryland this morning and picked up teammates on the trip to Connecticut. Others who live in the New England region met the team in Newtown.
