McDonogh coach Dom Damico said that senior tackle Lane Clelland "has the perfect body for a lineman: tall, long and strong." And "he has a mean streak," Damico added. "I know what he means by mean streak," said Clelland, who is 6 feet 5 and 270 pounds. "When I'm pass-blocking and I feel someone off balance, I'm like a shark who smells blood. And when I do, I want to drive my man into the ground." Opposing coaches, like Loyola's Brian Abbott, have noticed. "Lane is the best offensive lineman we saw last year, " he said.

She was the administrative right hand of a director who couldn't write legibly, another who couldn't hear too well and a third who couldn't find something just 30 seconds after he set it down.Late last week, all three men and a number of friends and former and present colleagues gathered to honor Doris McClelland, 58, administrative aide at the Carroll County Cooperative Extension Service for 25 years.With her husband, Bill, sitting by her side, McClelland of Westminster marked her years of service and her retirement.

Brooke Kuhl-McClelland has been named Mount Hebron's girls lacrosse head coach, becoming the first woman in the program's history to hold that position. Kuhl-McClelland, a former junior varsity coach at Hammond who was a varsity assistant at Mount Hebron the past two seasons, takes over for Chris Robinson, who stepped down in August after being promoted to assistant principal at Mount Hebron. Robinson guided the Vikings to five state championships and a 107-8-1 record in his six seasons.

Most of Lutherville resident Brooke Kuhl-McClelland's day is spent in a dance studio in Howard County. When this veteran dance teacher's students give a public performance, she prefers to be off to the side - watching as her students bask in the applause. But last month the spotlight and applause were for this teacher, who instructs dance students at Hammond High School. Kuhl-McClelland's career earned her one of the four Howie Awards, handed out at the 15th annual "Celebration of the Arts in Howard County" on March 24 in the Peter and Elizabeth Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center at Howard Community College.

Dr. Ellen G. McDaniel, whose distinguished career in psychiatry spanned more than 40 years and influenced patients, medical students and even juries, died of lung cancer Thursday at her home in Highland. She was 71. The former Ellen Garb was raised in Cleveland and went off to college with thoughts of becoming a nurse. But her father encouraged her to train as a doctor, and she did — graduating from the University of Michigan Medical School as one of only seven women in the class of 1966, said her husband, John P. McDaniel.

Meghan Rebecca Pauliny and Jay Lee McClelland were united in marriage on April 22, 2006, at Hunt's Memorial United Methodist Church, Riderwood in a double ring ceremony officiated by the Rev. Mary P. Roberts. The bride is the daughter of Becky and John Pauliny, Lutherville. The groom's parents are Lee Anne and Jim McClelland, Medina, OH. The bridal attendants included matron of honor, Jill Michels of Lutherville; bridesmaids Alexandra DePiero, Jersey City, NJ and Megan Simone of Fairfax, VA. Jeffrey McClelland of Cleveland, OH was best man; Howard Chu of Los Angeles and Todd Pauliny of White Marsh were groomsmen.

County executive named to national health panel Howard County Executive Ken Ulman has been appointed by National Association of Counties President Don Stapley to serve as vice chairman of the association's Health Steering Committee for 2008-2009. The committee is responsible for developing the association's policy regarding federal legislation and policy on health care delivery and financing - including indigent care, health care for the uninsured, Medicaid, Medicare, long-term care, local public health programs, mental health, substance abuse and developmental disabilities.

Given a far stronger game than it had reason to expect, Centennial used a penalty kick as the springboard to its first girls state 4A-3A soccer title with a 4-1 defeat of Dulaney yesterday at Arundel.The score did not do the game justice.The 16-0 Eagles -- No. 1 in The Baltimore Sun poll but seeded fourth only because of the non-4A-3A schools they play -- jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Paige Nettlebladt's penalty kick 2 minutes, 34 seconds before halftime.They led 2-0 with just more than 26 minutes left, but top seed and fifth-ranked Dulaney (13-3-1)
