With the promise of more than $1 million in savings each year, Trigen-Cinergy Solutions LLC has won a 15-year contract to provide electricity and steam for Millennium Inorganic Chemicals' Hawkins Point plant.The utility company, a joint venture between Trigen Energy Corp. of White Plains, N.Y., and Cincinnati's Cinergy Corp., will install a combined heat and power (CHP) plant at Millennium's facility. CHP plants are considered more efficient because they trap and use excess power that is often lost in other energy-production processes.

In a move that may be used as a model nationwide, the state awarded a $469 million contract yesterday to supply the University of Maryland, College Park with electricity, heat and air conditioning from a team led by a Baltimore energy company.The deal with the team of Trigen Energy Corp. and Cincinnati-based Cinergy Corp. will provide the 35,000-student campus with energy services through 2019.University officials say the Trigen-Cinergy deal also represents the first time a U.S. university has contracted with an alternative energy supplier to outsource all of its utility requirements.

CINCINNATI -- The Ravens have only a 19-37-1 record since they moved from Cleveland to Baltimore nearly four years ago, but even the Ravens might be overconfident in today's game against the Cincinnati Bengals at Cinergy Field.The Bengals haven't won a game in 13 months at Cinergy, losing 10 straight. Cincinnati has a 2-19 record in its past 21 games overall and has allowed 302 points this season, most in the NFL. Fans are wearing bags over their heads, and coach Bruce Coslet might be fired at the end of the year.
