A struggle is under way over the name -- and soul, some say -- of the Morgan Christian Center, where Morgan State University students have gone for nearly 50 years to pray, study or just think in peace.About 30 students took time out from lunch and classes yesterday to protest a proposal to remove "Christian" from the center's name and to take down the tall wooden cross standing on its front lawn."You can't take our history without us protesting," said junior Shonda Gladden, as she and the rest of the group braved a frigid wind to chant and pray on the pedestrian bridge over Cold Spring Lane at the heart of the university's Northeast Baltimore campus.

New Life Christian Center, 9800 Mallard Drive, in South Laurel, will hold a free Community Health Fair on Saturday, April 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fair will offer free screenings for hypertension, glucose and cholesterol; nutrition advice on subjects such as diabetes and heart health; and Zumba, yoga and weight training demonstrations. Refreshments will be served. The Community Health Fair is sponsored by Foreign Affairs Recreation Association, Suburban Hospital John Hopkins Medicine and Adventist Healthcare.

On Saturday May 20, 2006, MARIA ISABEL (nee Razuri) JONES. Isabel was the co-founder of Club Peru of Maryland, she was an active member of Kingsway Christian Center, traveled to Mexico, South and Central America on several mission trips and loved family, people, dancing, singing, and cooking. The Perry Hall resident was 75. She was the much-loved wife of D. Daniel Jones, devoted mother of Peter J. and Richard D. Jones, sister of Delia, Julia, Enrique, Jose, Thelmo and Luis Razuri, and Josefa "Pepita" Villamonte, grandmother of Andrew, Hudson and Darby Rose Jones.

An East Baltimore church was destroyed in an early morning blaze Sunday after a burglar stole sound equipment from the building, according to police. No injuries were reported in the fire and burglary, which occurred shortly after 4 a.m. at the Paradise Christian Center, located in the 3000 block of E. Oliver Street, according to police spokesman Kevin Brown. Brown said the fire started when a burglar attempted to steal the sound equipment, and eventually consumed the entire building.

Sister Mary Aurelia Benedetto, a member of the Sisters of Mercy who used her skills as an educator and an administrator working with the poor and the elderly of Baltimore, died Nov. 23 at Columbus Regional Medical Center in Georgia of complications from a fall. She was 86. Sister Mary Aurelia, who had lived since 2003 at The Villa, an assisted-living facility in the Woodbrook section of Baltimore County that her order shares with the Mission Helpers of the Sacred Heart, had been visiting friends in Columbus at the time of her fall.

Group to present Christian concert at Anchor Baptist Anchor Baptist Church will present a concert featuring the Messengers Ensemble at 10:30 a.m. June 22 at the church, 320 W.
