On Tuesday evening, Orioles first baseman Chris Davis will find out whether he is a finalist for the American League Most Valuable Player Award. On Monday night, he lost his first two awards battles of the offseason with Detroit Tigers third baseman and defending AL MVP Miguel Cabrera. As part of the Players' Choice Awards, voted on by current members of the Major League Baseball Players Association and announced Monday, Cabrera won both the AL Outstanding Player and the overall Player of the Year awards after leading the major leagues in batting average (.348)

While Disney Cruise Line sailed to 13 first-place finishes in the 2014 Cruise Critic Cruisers' Choice Awards, Baltimore-based ships also cruised to Top 10 finishes in a number of categories. Royal Caribbean's Grandeur of the Seas ranked No. 8 overall best ship in the "midsize" category. The recently renovated ship, which returned to the port of Baltimore last May after undergoing $48 million in upgrades, also scored among the 10 best midsize ships for dining, embarkation, entertainment, fitness, public rooms, service and shore excursions.

Despite his gaudy run-production numbers this past season, first baseman Chris Davis will be an underdog to become the first Orioles player to win the American League Most Valuable Player Award in more than two decades. Davis was named one of three finalists for the award Tuesday night, along with Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera and Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout. The Orioles slugger led the major leagues with 53 home runs, 138 RBIs and 370 total bases, and he was a Gold Glove finalist at first base.

Jazz musician Carl Grubbs has performed across Europe, South America and the United States and has received a host of awards over the years. But he says he can't think of any honor higher than the one he received Wednesday, when he was named one of the top winners of the first Baker Artist Awards program, established to promote Baltimore-area artists on the Internet and encourage more artists to move here. "I have a Web site, but there's no way in the world that I could think of building a Web connection like theirs," Grubbs, 64, said after the awards were announced.

It likely will be an offseason filled with talk about awards and nominations for Orioles first baseman Chris Davis. The first one trickled in today when Davis was named as a finalist for the Major League Baseball Player Association's Player of the Year and the American League's Outstanding Player. Davis, who led the major leagues with 53 homers and 138 RBIs, is up against Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera and Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw for the prestigious Player of the Year Award for the season's best player regardless of league or position.

Mandy Moore weds rocker Ryan Adams Mandy Moore is a married woman. Publicist Jillian Fowkes confirms the actress-singer and her fiance, rock musician Ryan Adams, tied the knot Tuesday in Savannah, Ga. No details were provided. The 24-year-old Moore confirmed her engagement to Adams last month. Brown drops out There won't be any awkward Chris Brown moment at Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards - the embattled pop star has withdrawn his name from the ballot. A petition had been circulated to take his name off the ballot, but Nickelodeon said Tuesday that he was still on it. Yesterday, Brown, who is accused of attacking his girlfriend, pop star Rihanna, decided to take his name out of consideration.

EP Henry has announced the winners of the third annual Contractors' Choice Awards, which recognizes the outstanding Hardscaping professionals and projects of 2012 across the Mid-Atlantic region, and a Joppa firm was runner up in one of the categories. TripAdvisor has announced the winners of its 2013 Travelers' Choice awards for lodging and three Baltimore hotels are among those recognized by the travel website. The awards are based on millions of reviews and feedback from travelers who rated more than 650,000 hotels in categories of Top Hotels, Luxury, Service, Small Hotels, and B&Bs and Inns. The Inn at The Black Olive , where TV stars such as Julia Louis Dreyfus reportedly have stayed, was ranked third among U.S. properties in the Small Hotel category.

A team of Howard County students scored first place in one category of the 2009 International Botball Tournament, an educational robotics competition. Three teenagers who attend Cedar Brook Academy, a private school in Clarksburg in Montgomery County, worked for about four months to develop a mobile, autonomous robot, winning the judge's choice award at the regional level and topping the Alliance Match category at the international level in July. "My favorite part for the past couple years has been winning," said Ethan Myers, 16, the team captain, who's been competing annually since sixth grade.
