Kevin Harvick left an indelible impression on NASCAR fans last season. It's just that he looked more like a prizefighter than a race driver. Last September at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway, Harvick stood on the window frame of his No. 29 Chevrolet, his eyes burning, his 5-foot-10, 175-pound body taut, ready to charge, and unprintable words flying from his mouth. He was a vision of fury. The target of his outrage was fellow driver Ricky Rudd, who had bumped him into the wall while Harvick was running second and cost him any chance of winning the race.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Tonight's Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway amounts to an unfinished NASCAR tag-team match from February's Daytona 500. Michael Waltrip won it, and is also defending champion of last July's 400. So he'll go for three straight, trying to tie Cale Yarborough's 35-year-old record for consecutive major wins at Daytona. Restrictor-plate racing requires drafting teamwork, and Waltrip and DEI Chevrolet teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr. have been the masters of it in recent years.
