Baltimore County police have identified the victim of a fatal single vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday night when a car struck a tree in Essex. Jerome Matthew Ziemski, 32, of the 500-block of Cranford Road in Baltimore died after the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette he was driving crashed at Hyde Park Road and South Marlyn Avenue about 7:45 p.m. Christmas Eve. Police investigators said Ziemski, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was traveling north on Hyde Park when the car left the roadway, overturned and hit a tree.

An arrest was made in connection with a car heist in Hanover last month, where an Anne Arundel County police officer shot at a suspect. Andre Scott Nureni, 24, of the 8400 block of Berwick Road in Upper Marlboro, was arrested Thursday on burglary, auto theft, rogue and vagabond and other related charges, Anne Arundel County Police said. On March 12 at around 12:37 a.m., officers discovered that the Baltimore Washington Auto Outlet in the 2700 block of Annapolis Road had been burglarized, police said.

Lymon S. Ford, 89, the third national executive director of what became United Way of America, died Monday in Chapel Hill, N.C. He was national executive director of United Community Funds and Councils of America from 1960 to 1970.Spencer Taylor, 60, an artist known for his mural at Lambert Airport in St. Louis that celebrates the contributions of blacks to aviation, died Tuesday in Spanish Lake, Mo. The cause of death was unavailable. He and his assistant completed the 51-foot-long mural at the airport in August 1991.

A Silver Spring man died early yesterday in a one-car crash on Route 216 in Scaggsville, Howard County police reported. Richard Kenneth Meates, 48, was driving his Chevrolet Corvette west on Route 216, approaching a T-intersection at Leishear Road, when he failed to stop for a flashing red signal, police said. The car ran into a guardrail and down an embankment, police said. Meates was pronounced dead at the scene.

But these tires have been available mostly on sports cars, not on the kinds of vehicles most people drive, such as sport utility vehicles or minivans. French tire maker Michelin has developed a system that extends run-flat capability to minivans and SUVs while also eliminating some of the drawbacks of traditional run-flats, also known as self-supporting tires.

A Baltimore County woman died and her boyfriend was critically injured in the crash Wednesday night in Harford County of a sports car that was taken without permission from his uncle's automotive garage, state police said. Daniel Alan Nichols, 19, of Bel Air lost control of the 1986 Chevrolet Corvette on Prospect Road in Street about 7 p.m. It struck an embankment, hit a traffic sign and slid 70 feet on its roof, said Tfc. George Jackson. Killed was Amy Marie Stadelman of the 1800 block of Link Ave. in Fullerton.
