She isn't quite 5 feet tall, but Kristin Chenoweth has achieved uncommon stature in show business, thanks to consistently sizzling performances on Broadway, including an indelible portrayal of Glinda in "Wicked"that earned her a Tony nomination, and several television shows. With just the slightest touch of hyperbole, "Glee"actor Chris Colfer neatly expressed Chenoweth's appeal after her guest appearance on that series, telling the Los Angeles Times that "working with Kristin is what I can imagine what a priest would go through if he worked with Jesus.

Clarence Merrick "Cheney" Chenoweth, a Black & Decker Corp. supervisor famous for his ambidextrous "iron man" softball pitching, died Wednesday of heart failure in his home in Upperco. He was 85.On Dec. 18, Mr. Chenoweth and his wife, the former Vivian Turnbaugh, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.Mr. Chenoweth was born in the Cherry Hill section of Reisterstown and had a rough childhood after his father left. Struggling to help meet expenses for his mother, brother and himself, he went to the Black & Decker plant in Towson to seek a job when he was 15.Despite repeated rebuffs from supervisors, the company hired him after he told plant managers: "I've got to keep coming back because my mother keeps sending me," according to his son, C. Merrick "Rick" Chenoweth Jr.His brother, Howard, also worked at the plant.

Man is fatally shot near city high school A man who died late Sunday after being gunned down in an alley near Forest Park High School was identified by police as Gregory Moore, 40, of the 4700 block of Melbourne Road. Police said yesterday that the apparent motive was robbery. Northwestern District officers, responding to a 911 call shortly after 10 p.m. reporting shots fired in the 4100 block of Rollins Ave., found the victim lying in an alley and bleeding from at least one gunshot wound to the neck, said Officer Troy Harris, a police spokesman.
