Orem "Jerry" Wahl, the co-owner of a Mount Vernon framing shop who was a theater first-nighter, died of a heart attack Saturday at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He was 73. Pat Moran, a friend and film casting agent, said he was stricken while in the lobby of his home, the St. Paul at Chase condominium. Born in Baltimore and raised in East Baltimore, he was a 1955 Patterson High School graduate. As a child he was a drum major and performed in local theater. Friends said he spent his childhood weekend afternoons at the old State Theatre on East Monument Street where vaudeville acts played alongside films.

After more than 30 years, the brick-and-mortar heart of Baltimore's gay activism and support network is moving. The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center of Baltimore, or GLCCB, announced Friday that it will depart its longtime West Chase Street headquarters for new space in the city-owned Waxter Center. Matt Thorn, the GLCCB's executive director, said he is excited for the organization's next chapter, partnering with the city on new programs and taking advantage of being in the same building as the Waxter Center for Senior Citizens.

Two people were shot Monday, one of them fatally, according to Baltimore Police. A 37-year-old man was the latest victim; he was sitting in a stopped vehicle on the 6400 block of E. Pratt St. around 8:30 p.m. when a minivan pulled up and he was shot several times in the torso, said police spokesman Anthony Smith. The man was pronounced dead on the scene. And earlier in the day, a 29-year-old man was shot in the leg in Pigtown, on the 1400 block of Washington Blvd., a half-block from the Barrister Charles Carroll Elementary School.

Heavy rains infiltrated sanitary sewer lines at two locations in Baltimore and caused more than 24,000 gallons of untreated sewage to overflow from Wednesday evening into Thursday morning, according to the city Department of Public Works. A 12,100-gallon spill occurred in the 1700 block of East Chase Street and 12,300 gallons overflowed in the 1900 block of Falls Road. "Rain gets into the cracks of these old pipes," said Kurt Kocher, DPW spokesman. "We are aware of the problems at these locations, when it rains heavily.
