Quote: "It's great if we get those two back healthy, but who is to say that will happen." - Cleveland Indians manager Charlie Manuel on the rehabilitation of starting pitchers Jaret Wright and Charles Nagy . It's a fact: The Kansas City Royals have struck out only 474 times, the fewest in the majors. Who's hot: Detroit Tigers second baseman Damion Easley has an errorless streak of 99 games, a club record. Who's not: The Kansas City Royals have only won one of their last 10 series. On deck: David Wells will go for his major-league leading 16th victory the Blue Jays host the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

CLEVELAND -- Why not strike out 23 times and win? The Orioles have spent all season doing things that had never been done while swinging the bat.In striking out 23 times while eliminating the Cleveland Indians yesterday, the Orioles surpassed the record for most strikeouts in a victory, previously held by the 1972 Cincinnati Reds, who struck out 22 times in a 19-inning regular-season game with the Los Angeles Dodgers, yet won, 2-1. The Orioles' 23 strikeouts...

CLEVELAND -- Orlando Hernandez knows about pressure. H faced it less than 10 months ago when he and seven others defected from Cuba and were eventually picked up by the U.S. Coast Guard on a tiny Caribbean island. Confronting a different kind of peril last night, Hernandez rescued the New York Yankees with the calm of a man who has been places far more dangerous than Jacobs Field. Hernandez and relievers Mike Stanton and Mariano Rivera combined for a 4-0 shutout of the Cleveland Indians that evened the American League Championship Series at two games apiece.

CLEVELAND -- Chris Hoiles made his point. Then the Orioles catcher smothered it in history to make sure everyone noticed.Enjoying the most prolific offensive performance of the season, Hoiles last night became only the ninth major-league player -- and the first catcher -- to hammer two grand slams in a game. Batting eighth within a lineup that crushed the Cleveland Indians, 15-3, before 43,169 at Jacobs Field, Hoiles finished with eight RBIs and three hits, reminding all who may have doubted that his potential for wrecking remains.

Indians' Charles Nagy (0-0, 6.35)vs. O's Mike Mussina (0-0, 1.29)What Nagy throws: A sinkerball, slider pitcher who gets by more on location than velocity.Nagy of late: After winning three of his last five decisions during the regular season, Nagy has not pitched well in the postseason. His penchant for trying to hit the corners, and his inability to hit them, has gotten him into trouble against the New York Yankees and Orioles.Something to look for: It will be interesting to see how long manager Mike Hargrove stays with Nagy if he continues to nit-pick and not attack the Orioles' hitters.
