A Glen Burnie man was stopped for not wearing his seat belt while leaving Freetown Village Friday, then was arrested on drug charges after police searched his car.Joseph E. Neuman, 32, of the 7700 block of West Drive was charged with possession of crack cocaine. Police also seized his car, a 1995 Nissan.Police stopped the car just after 9 p.m. The driver gave police permission to search his car, and an officer found a small rock of crack cocaine worth about $20, police said.Pub Date: 2/03/98

Baltimore County police have charged a civilian employee who worked in the department's Criminal Investigation Division after detectives found marijuana in her home Wednesday. Investigators searched the home of Susan M. Burke on Glenback Avenue in Pikesville Wednesday morning, where they found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the house, police wrote in charging documents. Among the items found were grinders, scales, smoking pipes and a mason jar with plant residue, among other items for marijuana use. Police spokeswoman Elise Armacost said Burke will be reassigned to another county government position.

A 32-year-old New Windsor man, who was a passenger in an automobile stopped for speeding, was arrested and held in lieu of $1,500 bond after a loaded .357 Magnum pistol was found under his seat yesterday, state police said.The man, Ricky A. Clinton, of the 3100 block of Hooper Delight Road, also was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a stainless steel pipe, according to police.Tfc. Leonard Mays said he began pursuing a 1976 Ford Mustang for speeding south on Route 31 about 10:30 a.m. and followed as it turned onto Marston Road.

An employee at local synagogue has been charged with possessing and distributing child pornography, Baltimore County police said. Police do not believe any children at the Ner-Tamid synagogue in Greenspring Valley were victims of Jonathan J. Lewin, 44, who was recently charged after police found he had shared pornographic images of children online. Detectives began investigating Lewin on May 16 after they traced the source of images to his home in 6600 block of Edenvale Road.

A Sykesville man was arrested Tuesday in Westminster on charges of possession of marijuana, resisting arrest and obstructing and hindering justice.Jerome Lee Myers, 34, of the 5700 block of Hodges Road was being held in lieu of $15,000 bail at the Carroll County Detention Center.In charging documents, R. Clint Cromwell, a deputy sheriff assigned to serve warrants, reported that the suspect denied he was Myers. By the time Cromwell confirmed the man's identity with a nearby witness, the man had fled, and the deputy chased him for several blocks through yards and alleys before taking him into custody, the reports said.

A routine noise complaint was anything but when police went to a Westminster apartment early yesterday and arrested five people, one of whom is accused of growing a dozen marijuana plants, court records show.Ernesto A. Torres, 19, of the 100 block of W. Main St. was held in lieu of $25,000 bail after being charged with possession of marijuana, growing marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and maintaining a common nuisance.The others, who were released on personal recognizance, were: Nicole T. John, 18, of the 16000 block of Trenton Road in Upperco; William J. Brengle, 19, of the 5000 block of Millers Station Road in Hampstead; Joshua L. Potts, 19, of the 4600 block of Water Tank Road in Manchester; and Erin L. Dauzet, 21, of the 100 block of E. Green St. in Westminster.

County police arrested a Pasadena man on a drug charge Sunday after they stopped his truck near Fort Meade because a taillight was missing.Michael Anthony Burns, 18, of the 200 block of 11th St. was charged with possession of marijuana.Officer Arthur G. Foote stopped a white Ford Ranger on Route 32 near Route 198 in Odenton about 10: 30 p.m. When he spoke to the driver, Foote noticed an odor of marijuana from the truck, police said.The driver consented to a search of the truck, and police found a partly burned cigarette containing what later tested positive for marijuana, police said.

Three men and two women were arrested on drugs charges Tuesday, after police intercepted a 2-pound package of marijuana that had been shipped from Arizona. The package led police to two addresses, where the arrests were made.Police said the marijuana was worth $9,000 on the street.At 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, police raided a house in the 7900 block of Sutherland Court, arrested two people and recovered a small amount of marijuana. Christopher Lee Michaels, 23, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of marijuana.

A Georgetown University student has been charged with possessing the powerful toxin ricin after it was discovered in his dorm room this week, according to court documents. Daniel Harry Milzman, 19, of Bethesda is facing federal charges for possession of more than 120 milligrams of the poison a potentially lethal amount. Milzman on Monday informed his residential adviser at Georgetown's McCarthy Hall that he had created ricin and showed the adviser a plastic bag containing what he claimed was the substance, court documents say. The residential adviser notified school counselors, who alerted police.

A Columbia man and long-term substitute teacher at an Ellicott City middle school was charged Thursday night with possession of child pornography, Howard County police said Friday. Jeremy Sykes, 43, of Hesperus Drive in Columbia, was charged after police traced child pornography to his personal computer at his home and a second computer belonging to the Howard County Public School System, police said. Police said there is no indication the images were of students at Folly Quarter Middle School, where Sykes has been teaching since October 2013.

An 18-year old Annapolis resident who last week was arrested and charged with marijuana possession on a school bus at Annapolis High School was arrested on Tuesday night at an apartment and charged with marijuana possession, according to Annapolis police. According to a Wednesday morning police report, Luis Ruiz of Annapolis was arrested after officers received a report around 9:05 p.m. on Tuesday that he was selling drugs on the 1100 block on Madison Street. Officers subsequently approached Ruiz when he left the area and ran into an apartment on the 1000 block of President Street, police said.

A 16-year-old boy was charged Friday with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after Harford County Sheriff's deputies were called to investigate a complaint about a party near Bel Air. Deputies were called to the 1400 block of Halkirk Place in the Fountain Green area around 10:50 p.m. Friday for a report of a loud party, according to Eddie Hopkins, spokesman for the Harford County Sheriff's Office. When they arrived, deputies found a small party in progress. One deputy spoke with the parents at the home, who were controlling access to the party at the front door, while two deputies went to the rear of the home "to get a better vantage point of the party and who was there," Hopkins wrote in an e-mail.

Anne Arundel County police charged a 13-year-old Laurel student Tuesday with possessing a dangerous weapon on school property. The boy, who is being charged as a juvenile, also faces second-degree assault and reckless endangerment charges. He has been released into the custody of his parents. While MacArthur Middle School students waited a bus stop in Fort Meade Tuesday, a parent called to alert school that a student was carrying a BB gun in the waistband of his pants. School officials contacted police and their own security office and met the bus when it arrived.

An argument over an unpaid pool maintenance bill led to the arrest of a Pasadena woman on drug charges Tuesday. Joan Della Lott, 52, was arrested at her Luke Drive home for cultivating marijuana, not for arguing about an unpaid bill. The pool man called police to the home about noon. While mediating the dispute, officers spotted marijuana plants growing in wooden planters on the property, which is near Mountain Road. Police said they seized four plants, nearly 20 feet in length, with an estimated street value of $3,300.

When a guest at a Linthicum hotel tried to pay his bill Tuesday with counterfeit money, the innkeeper called Anne Arundel County police. Officers arrived shortly before noon at the Red Roof Inn, in the 800 block of Elkridge Landing Road and located the suspect on the parking lot. The smell of marijuana led officers to search the vehicle. Diarra Scott, 37, of Mount De Sales Road in western Baltimore County, was charged with drug distribution and related charges. During the search of the suspect's car, officers located more than a pound of marijuana packaged for sale and distribution and seized it along with $2,448 in U.S. currency and $640 in counterfeit currency.
