Two men were charged with attempted murder after they shot at others in the parking lot of the Red Roof Inn in the 8800 block of Washington Blvd. in Jessup early Saturday, authorities said.Howard County police officers responding to a report of disorderly conduct about 1:15 a.m. saw a crowd of about 30 people and heard several shots. Two men threw their guns to the ground when officers approached, police said.Two people at the scene said the two men fired shots at them during a dispute, according to officers, who found two loaded guns nearby.

A 19-year-old man has been charged in a Northwest Baltimore double shooting that injured two men in late July, Baltimore police say. Michael Pickett, 19, of 603 E 38th St., faces attempted murder, assault and weapons charges after Baltimore police say he shot two men sitting in a 2000 Saturn on July 30 in the 5000 block of Gwynn Oak Ave. in Howard Park. Police say a 22-year-old man was shot in the chest and lower back while a 27-year-old man was shot in the right arm. Witnesses identified Pickett as a person of interest in the shooting and he was arrested after a photo lineup, detectives wrote in charging documents.

A Harford County man was arrested and charged with attempted murder yesterday after a woman who stopped for directions at a Wendy's restaurant was lured into following another driver and attacked, state police said. Kevin Cordell Benjamin, 31, of the 1700 block of Ironwood Court in Edgewood was also charged with first-degree assault. Police said he promised to help Rita Anne Buffington, 56, of Baltimore, find a relative's house in Towson.Police said Buffington stopped at a Wendy's on U.S. 40 in Joppatowne where Benjamin was working.

A Glen Burnie man was charged with attempted homicide and assault after police said he stabbed and slashed a man with a knife during an altercation at an automatic teller machine Saturday at Glen Burnie Town Center. Anne Arundel County Police said they arrested Timothy John Garrity, 62, of Glen Burnie. Police were called to the Crain Highway shopping center at 1:27 a.m. after witnesses saw two men and a woman fighting at the M&T Bank ATM. Officers found a man bleeding from his hand who said a man and woman tried to rob him. Officers then received a call from a stabbing victim at Baltimore Washington Medical Center, who said he and a woman had been at the ATM when a man approached and began slashing at him with a knife, police said.

Two Mount St. Mary's College students have been arrested and charged in the attempted burglary of the closed Havilah Inn in Taneytown.Taneytown police said yesterday that intruders used a crowbar in an attempt to break into the Taneytown Pike restaurant Sunday afternoon. An alarm was tripped, and Taneytown Sgt. Gregory Woelfel went to the scene. Minimal damage was reported.Charged with attempted burglary are Robert C. O'Connell of Runnymede, N.J., and Brendan Patrick Flynn of Potomac. Both are 20 and students at the Emmitsburg college.

A 17-year-old Edgewater boy was being held without bond yesterday on a charge of attempted first-degree murder in the shooting of a 16-year-old acquaintance, county police said.William Jacks Jr., of the 1200 block of Marlboro Road, is accused of driving April Ward to a secluded area on Loch Haven Road after picking her up at her job at Wendy's, robbing her, then shooting her once in the chest shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday.After she fell, the gunman stood over her with his gun drawn before fleeing when a car approached, police said.

Four teenagers are charged as adults with robbing and stabbing a pizza delivery driver in Essex Monday night, Baltimore County police said. Police said the teens, between 16 and 19, attacked a Pizza Boli's driver as he attempted to make a delivery in the 1100 block of Tace Drive around 11:30 p.m. The 20-year-old driver was taken to a local hospital. The manager at the Back River Neck Road restaurant said previously that the employee has been released from the hospital. Charged are Raquawn Montrel Harrison, 18, of the 900 block of Holgate Drive, Michael Frederick Powell 17, of the unit block of Helmsman Court, Davonte Montrell Eckeard, 16, of the 1400 block of Hadwick Drive in Essex and Jonathan Richard Fly, 19, of the 5200 block of King Avenue in Rosedale.

Annapolis police charged two men — one of them the cousin of the capital city's mayor — with attempted murder in connection with a January shooting and robbery. Police arrested Maurice Hall 26, and Savvas Andre Pantelides, 24, on Thursday. Pantelides is a cousin of Mayor Mike Pantelides, according to Rhonda Wardlaw, the mayor's spokeswoman. Wardlaw said the mayor had no comment on the arrest. Wardlaw also confirmed that acting city attorney Timothy Murnane was at the police station Thursday when Savvas Pantelides was there.

A 65-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after Baltimore County police said he set his neighbor's house on fire Tuesday in Essex. Investigators believe John Wesley Mosley Jr. used an accelerant to start a fire in his neighbor's home in the of the 700 block of Essex Ave. Tuesday morning. Police went to Mosley's home on Sunday after neighbors called about his strange behavior. Officers from the county's Mobile Crisis Unit - which is called when a person is suffering from a mental illness - spoke to the victim and her friend, who was not at home at the time of Tuesday's fire.

Baltimore County police identified a man who was shot by officers in Windsor Mill on Sunday after he allegedly assaulted a woman and attempted to run officers down with his car. Police charged 29-year-old Elisha Rayfield Pridgeon with attempted first-degree murder and related charges in the confrontation early Sunday. Officers who were called to the 3700 block of Old Milford Mill Road on a report of a man assaulting a woman used Tasers and batons to subdue Pridgeon, but said they didn't work.

Howard County police found the convicted felon wanted in the shooting of an officer as the man limped along U.S. 1 Thursday morning, concluding a manhunt that had begun the day before while authorities canvassed the area. Stephon Prather, 29, was found walking with the help of two sticks near the spot where police said he exchanged gunshots Wednesday with three officers. Authorities said he had been shot twice in the legs and believe he spent the night in a storm drain where investigators later found a gun. Prather's capture came after hundreds of officers — including aviation, canine and foot patrol units — scoured a half-mile-wide wooded area along the busy thoroughfare in Laurel.
