The University of Maryland's College of Agriculture and Natural Resources will hold a field day at the Clarksville facility of its Central Maryland Research and Education Center from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday. An environmentally centered program, "A Healthy Environment, A Healthy Me," will be held from noon to 3 p.m. for the public. Activities will include walking tours in the dairy barn area, hay wagon tours of the facility, including a manure composting site and wetlands area, and hands-on educational exhibits.

The 13th annual Central Maryland Physics Olympics for high school students will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Liberty High School on Bartholow Road in Eldersburg. A total of 27 schools from Carroll, Montgomery, Washington, Frederick, Howard, Baltimore, Prince Georges, Calvert and Anne Arundel counties and Baltimore City have registered to participate. Each team is accompanied by an adult and may include up to six students from any level of physics. The Olympics will include six events that demonstrate the fun in physics.

CHRISTINE SARBANES, wife of Maryland's senior U.S. senator, Paul Sarbanes, was the honorary chairwoman of the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland's 1997 Distinguished Women event, held at the American Visionary Arts Museum. More than 300 people came to the party held to honor Lynne Battaglia, U.S. attorney for Maryland, and Judge Diana Motz, of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.Lisa Cid, executive director of the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland, and Sandy McNeal, president of the organization, were among those in attendance.

MEMBERSHIP IN THE ALEXIS De Tocqueville Society is extended to individuals who have contributed a minimum of $10,000 and maximum of $249,999 to the United Way of Central Maryland. These big givers were entertained recently at a lovely reception at the Ladew Topiary Gardens in Monkton.The hosts of the event were Ben and Wendy Griswold and Roger Lipitz. Ben Griswold, of Alex. Brown Inc., was last year's 'N chairman of the society. Lipitz, of the Lipitz Family Foundation, is chair of the society for 1997.

The Audubon Society of Central Maryland will hold its annual Native Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Audrey Carroll Audubon Sanctuary near Mount Airy. Native trees, shrubs and perennials will be available. The plants can adapt to different sunlight, soil and water conditions. Carroll County master gardeners will answer questions and offer tips on planting and care. The sanctuary's stream, pond and wetland area will be open for visits. The sanctuary is in the 12900 block of Old Annapolis Road.
