The Orioles are in Chicago tonight, their second stop in their three-city, 10-game road trip. The Birds took two of three in Toronto over the weekend, but the 9-2 series-finale loss to the Blue Jays definitely left a bad taste heading to the Windy City. Speaking of wind, it was very windy coming into U.S. Cellular Field today. We'll see if that becomes a factor. The Orioles played three games with the roof closed in Toronto, and the ball was flying out of the place. Nolan Reimold is out of the lineup for a second straight day. That's partially because of a lingering cramp, Buck Showalter said, but because he also wants to get Endy Chavez in the lineup.

Scott Boras, often visible in his box behind home plate at Angel Stadium, remains in a stare-down with Angels general manager Tony Reagins over Adrian Beltre. There's no better fit for Beltre, but Boras is trying to get him the best deal possible. Texas has some interest, but it will disappear if the Rangers re-sign Vladimir Guerrero. … With Cliff Lee off the board, Carl Pavano is the most attractive free-agent starter available. He'll sign with the first team that offers him three years.

Orioles pitcher Tommy Hunter is undoubtedly well-regarded by the club's organizational brass. Even though he's only 25, he's pitched in big games and played in the postseason while he was with the Rangers. He's a guy who the Orioles would like to be a part of their rotation for years to come. Hunter is not going to overwhelm batters with his stuff. Instead, he relies on his fastball command to work hitters. But over his past two starts, Hunter has struggled. In an eventual 7-5 win at Toronto last week, he allowed four homers, tying a career high.

The Orioles have only one player at the All-Star Game again this year, but Team Mora is well-represented. When Melvin Mora found out he had been selected for tonight's game at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, he wanted his whole family to be there. So his wife, Gisel, has come with all six of their children, including the Mora quintuplets, who turn 2 on July 28. To help handle the load, Gisel also brought Mora's in-laws and their family. It's six children and six adults. "Everybody," Mora said, "is in charge of one baby."

CHICAGO - The Orioles watched franchise shortstop Miguel Tejada limp off the field last night in the first inning, and by then, that wasn't their only serious concern. Sidney Ponson had already given up three runs in what would become another unsightly performance for the team's $22.5 million ace. The Chicago White Sox pounded Ponson for seven runs in six innings, and then piled on against Rick Bauer and John Parrish to break the Orioles" three-game winning streak with a 15-0 victory at U.S. Cellular Field.
