A heartbreaking sight last week was Joel Lee's family at the criminal courthouse, where they once imagined American justice would be done, sobbing when they heard the inconceivable news that no one would be punished for the murder of their son.So it goes in the city of Baltimore, many said. A black jury, everyone said (unless they had black skin). Another sign of tension between blacks and Koreans, said others, including furious leaders of Baltimore's Korean community. But the immigrant family of Joel Lee, a 21-year-old senior at Towson State University who was shot in the face in September during a robbery, didn't have to say anything at all. Their tears said everything, and they added great sadness to the general revulsion and despair felt when a jury somehow found 20-year-old Davon Neverdon not guilty of Lee's murder.

WILMINGTON, Del. - Charles Cawley has long seen gold where others see lead, mining the overlooked business opportunity to the hilt and making it pay off handsomely. Take, appropriately enough, the gold credit card, which despite its hue left many bankers cold.In 1983, when he was head of the small credit card unit of the Maryland National Bank, Cawley pounced on the new Gold Mastercard, becoming the top issuer of a product that other banks had chosen to ignore. He repeated the feat last year as head of the now-independent unit, renamed MBNA Corp.

For $1, a fair-goer received 10 chances to win a goldfish -- all thecontestant had to do was toss a pingpong ball into a pint-size fishbowl. The game was besieged by people, young and old, all trying toleave the Sykesville Fireman's Park with more than a stuffed animal and stuffed belly.About 100 were successful each night, said a game operator, who refused to give his name."The kids enjoy it," the man said, as he gathered balls for the next eager competitor. "People tell us about the fish that they have from years before -- and they're getting bigger."
