One thing Boys' Latin junior heavyweight Brandon Carver did not want to do yesterday in his Dundalk Tournament title bout against Patapsco's Bill Hook was get thrown to his back. The 275-pound Hook had pinned 38 of his previous 39 opponents.Carver, at 235 pounds, was tossed, but he also was lucky.Hook, a defending Baltimore County champ, tossed Carver for a two-point takedown in the first period. But Carver's shoulders landed out of bounds, so near-fall points were not awarded."They don't usually get up from that, but this time, I missed it," said Hook.

CITY COPS rounded up some truant Northern High School students last week, cited them for curfew violations and then herded them back to school. So this is news? A Northwestern District officer was doing the same thing in Pimlico. In one week, he handed out 37 curfew citations to students who were supposed to have their butts in either Pimlico Middle School or Northwestern High School. One kid got four citations. One 13-year-old -- a strapping 80-pounder -- had about nine bags of crack on him. Such is the news we are used to getting about city public schools these days.
