Country singer Carrie Underwood will replace Faith Hill this fall in singing "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night," the anthem of NBC's top-rated weekly football telecast. The Sunday night broadcast, which averaged an audience of 21.8 million to become prime-time TV's highest rated show, is one the most skillfully and carefully packaged events in popular culture. "It's going to be the same song, same lyrics, but it's going to be with my flair," the Grammy-Award-winning singer said in a teleconference Tuesday.

Now that Carrie Underwood is no longer an unknown singer from Oklahoma -- now that the American Idol winner has two multiplatinum albums and two Grammy awards to her name, one of the questions she gets most is: "What does it feel like to be famous?" How do you answer that? "It's just awkward," Underwood said. "I don't really know how to answer it. ... It's like, `Oh, it feels great.'" Underwood said from the start she never really knew what to expect. She wasn't prepared to win the fourth season of American Idol or for her record-setting 2005 debut album, Some Hearts, to sell more than 7 million copies.

It's time to heat things up. Last night's episode was the beginning of the most intense part of the competition. Going into the Battle Rounds, each coach sends in two players from their team to compete head-to-head, and prove they are worthy to move on to the next round. While tonight is the first night for elimination, it is also a night for redemption. With the return of the steal, each coach has two chances to steal a player up for elimination from another team, and bring them to their team for a second chance to compete.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Carrie Underwood has easily had the fastest, and most consistent, start of any American Idol winner. In a year and a half, she went from small-town girl finishing her college degree in journalism to having Billboard's No. 1 album of 2006 and being voted the Country Music Association (CMA) female vocalist of the year. Talk about meteoric rise. "It's one of those rare combinations where she can start with such a huge fan base and you have an absolutely great record," said Gregg Swedberg, program director of Twin Cities country station K102.

The episode opened with one of the biggest stars to come out of American Idol: Carrie Underwood. Carrie documented her journey to her audition in St. Louis - and guess where tonight's audition city is? THIS! Is St. Louis! The city that introduced us to Carrie Underwood produced two awesome singers who bookended the episode: Johnny Keyser and Lauren Gray. But first, let's hand out awards... Best Support: The staff of the hotel where the auditions were held. A number of them came to see the audition of hotel auditor Mark Ingram, who delivered an off-key version of one of my favorite songs, Stevie Wonder's "Overjoyed.

Beckhams end debate Andrea Adelson, Orlando Sentinel If you are going to gush over athlete/celebrity couples, then you have to gush about the most glamorous, most famous, most recognizable couple in the world: David and Victoria Beckham. They are talented, gorgeous and powerful. They could be the most photographed couple by paparazzi and advertisers alike thanks to their good looks and instant marketability. David has left jaws dropping with his bending kicks and his bulging biceps.
