"I know I'm not a perfect singer," says Robert Cantrell. "Who wants a perfect singer? All the great ones had their flaws." The Georgia-born bass-baritone gives a little laugh as he says that, the laugh of someone who doesn't take himself too seriously. But Cantrell does take his art very seriously, as audiences will be reminded Sunday when the Baltimore resident will be a soloist in the Handel Choir of Baltimore's performance of the exquisite Requiem by Maurice Durufle. For the better part of two decades, Cantrell, 44, has been a frequent and much-admired contributor to the region's musical life.

On a night when the main card of EliteXC: Renegade held much promise with a number of intriguing matchups, only one out of the five main-card fights went beyond the first round. A doctor ended two fights. The lone title fight left fans with an empty feeling inside. And we still don't know anything more about Kimbo Slice's mixed martial arts skills. His fight ended after 19 seconds as Bo Cantrell tapped out in anticipation of the onslaught he was about to receive after Slice caught him with a punch and an elbow to the face that floored him. One thing I've noticed in Slice's training video is that he really does work on his elbows, and he used his lone elbow standing up fairly effectively.

The first time he watched Cantrell Fletcher on tape, Towson University men's basketball coach Pat Kennedy liked Fletcher's fire and hustle and smarts with the ball. Kennedy also saw an ideal way to plug the team's most glaring hole. So one of the first things he did after signing with Towson last spring was convince the well-traveled junior college star point guard to commit to the Tigers. The 3-6 Tigers, looking for their first winning season in nine years, remain a work in progress.
