When Stephanie Dignan left her job as a financial adviser to start her own fitness business, she had no idea she was about to change hundreds of lives. Just four months earlier, the Glenelg High School and University of Maryland graduate began teaching boot camp classes at a local gym. “I thought, 'Why not? I'll do it for fun,'” Dignan says. But that fun quickly developed into a passion -- one Dignan wanted to pursue full time. So in 2008, she launched her solo venture, The Boot Camp Girl LLC, with hopes of taking her boot camp skills and fitness ideas to clients across Howard County.

A woman's body was found Thursday in rising waters near a homeless camp in Laurel, as flooding closed roads throughout the region and a dangerously high reservoir prompted the evacuation of Laurel's historic district. The discovery of the body came as police in Laurel were going door to door to warn residents and business owners about likely flooding from a release of water at the T. Howard Duckett Dam by the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission. The commission also released water from Brighton Dam in Brookeville.

Here are some Orioles odds and ends this morning: -- We're still waiting for an announcement about an extension for manager Buck Showalter. This was the week it was supposed to be announced, but I wouldn't expect it for the next few days, and time is running out to make an announcement before FanFest on Saturday. Showalter will be busy with the team's mini-camp Wednesday through Friday. There's no reason to worry that it won't get done. It's mainly a matter of scheduling conflicts.

The vision of Ravens rookie running back Bernard Pierce is clearer nowadays on the football field. Following a more patient approach has paid dividends for Pierce, and the AFC North champion Ravens. The third-round draft pick from Temple has emerged as a valuable backup to Pro Bowl running back Ray Rice, rushing for 443 yards and a touchdown with an average of 5.2 yards per carry. Only a handful of rookie running backs selected in the 2012 NFL draft have been more productive than Pierce.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Orioles added their latest reclamation project Wednesday, agreeing to terms with first baseman Conor Jackson on a minor league deal with an invitation to major league spring training, executive vice president Dan Duquette announced. Jackson, a 2003 first-round draft pick of the Diamondbacks, put together three straight seasons of at least a .294 average, .368 on-base percentage, 12 homers and 60 RBIs from 2006 to 2008 with Arizona. But he's played in more than 60 big league games in a season just once since 2008, shuffling between the majors and minors within four different organizations during that span.
