Calvary United Methodist Church will hold its third annual craft fair, yard sale and barbecue chicken dinner from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday on the church grounds, 3939 Gamber Road. Local vendors will offer a variety of crafts. The grilled chicken platter will include homemade potato salad, green beans and applesauce. Baked goods will be available. Music will be provided from 11 a.m. to noon. Proceeds will benefit the church's mission projects. Information: 410-751-3841. St. Michael's to hold 125th-anniversary picnic June 6 Members and friends of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Poplar Springs are invited to a 125th-anniversary picnic from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 6. A line-dancing demonstration, Moonbounce, face painting, hair braiding, clowns, magic show, balloon animals and an apple-pie auction are planned. The picnic menu includes barbecue pulled beef, ham and turkey wraps, hot dogs, potato salad, pasta salad, chips, iced tea, lemonade, ice cream and cake.

The Rev. David Carter-Rimbach, With Easter approaching, the world's Christians are focused on the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, a topic more popular than ever because of Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ. Despite criticisms that The Passion is anti-Semitic and too violent, the film has not turned away local moviegoers with its graphic depiction of Christ's final hours on earth. Instead, many say, it has strengthened their faith and curiosity about religion. These Christians say they are approaching Holy Week with a new perspective this year.
