Many of us are trying to eat more fish these days because we know it's healthful, but somehow, there never seem to be enough easy recipes for cooking it. There's always the "broil-it-with-a-dab-of-butter" technique, but that treatment can get boring quickly. Here is a simple, fast and efficient fish dish that makes use of a pantry staple -- canned salmon. After all, we both wanted the same thing: We were determined to get rid of the eight pounds that had crept onto my frame in the last year.

Hungry for a challenge? Of course you are. This is America, after all, where everything is bigger and better -- until it isn't. Restaurants have long offered food challenges, from impossibly enormous steaks to milkshakes big enough to drown in. You know the drill: Clean your plate in a certain time and keep it down long enough to leave the restaurant and you get a free meal, your name on the wall -- maybe even a year's worth of free food. Each week a nutritionist from the University of Maryland Medical Center provides a guest post to The Baltimore Sun's health blog Picture of Health (baltimoresun.com/pictureofhealth), which is printed here. If you ask David Beares, complex new-age exercise machinery is not required to get a good workout. His class at a Columbia gym is taking workouts old school, and by that we mean Old World Russia - circa 1700. Kettlebells, the cast-iron cannonball-shaped weights that once served as counterweights on farm equipment, have found a new following in the gym. The weights have long been popular as a fitness tool in Russia, where they're featured in strength and endurance competitions and used in training for the Russian Olympic team and special forces.
