A Brooklyn Park man who called police Tuesday to report an attempted break-in was arrested on drug charges, county police said yesterday.Northern District Officer Michael Barclay, who responded to the call from an apartment in the 4600 block of Ritchie Highway, found three men and a woman standing on the porch, police said.The man who called police claimed that the people were trying to get in because he owed them $150 for drugs, police said. The man told the authorities that he was a cocaine addict with a $200- to $300-a-day habit.

A 17-year-old Churchton youth was being held without bond at the county jail after being charged with attempted murder in the shooting of a 32-year-old Edgewater man.Roger Dewey Brown was charged as an adult in connection with the shooting that occurred about 9:40 p.m. Friday.According to police reports, a gunman ambushed Earl Spencer Lucas in the 300 block of Center St. and shot him four times in the arm and leg. Mr. Lucas ran into an apartment, where residents called police.Mr. Lucas was treated at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore and released.

Four teens were charged with breaking into a Savage home after a neighbor reported seeing people hauling off property and called police Tuesday night, Howard County police said.Oanneau Elsworth Davis, 18, of Columbia and Johnathan Lee Northern, 18, whose address was unavailable, were being held at the Howard County Detention Center in Jessup on $5,000 bond each. Derek Dillman, 18, of Alexandria, Va., was released on an unsecured bond. The status of a 17-year-old male, whose address was also unavailable, was not disclosed under juvenile protection laws, a District Court commissioner said.

Baltimore County police investigated a report that a woman was heard yelling for help Sunday night on the street where a 52-year-old state worker was later found bludgeoned to death, officials said yesterday. But the officers apparently didn't knock on anyone's door. And they left the street in Randallstown where Linda Carol Brooks was found beaten with an axe and maul late Monday, saying they didn't notice any signs of distress. Police say they don't know if Brooks was killed Sunday night.

A man was arrested Saturday and charged with assaulting a Harundale woman and breaking into her house, county police said.Jamie Lee Guy called police about 3:30 a.m. Saturday after her 12-year-old daughter and her 11-year-old friend heard a banging in the front of the house, the police report said.The girls looked out the window and saw a man attempting to open a bedroom window, then another window and a sliding glass door in the rear of the house, police said.When police arrived, the man ran, but he was caught by Officer Paul W. Conner.

County police have charged a Baltimore man with sexually assaulting a county police officer in Friendship Park Monday.David Ross Paulson, 39, of the 2400 block of Brambleton Road, was charged with a fourth-degree sex offense. Cleon Austin Beittel Jr., 46, of the 2900 block of Cresmont Avenue in Baltimore, was charged with trespassing, police said.County police said detectives had received complaints of sexual activity in the woods of the park and went to the area to investigate.At about noon, police said Paulson followed a detective into the woods and sexually assaulted him. A short time later, police said, Beittel followed the officer into the woods past the "No trespassing" signs.

An Arnold man was undergoing a psychiatric evaluation at Anne Arundel Medical Center yesterday after barricading himself his home and threatening to commit suicide, county police said.John Echaues, 30, of the 1200 block of Seminole Drive, called police at 11:34 a.m. and told dispatchers he had a gun and wanted to kill himself, said Officer Randy Bell, a police spokesman.Officers went to the community off College Parkway, evacuated some nearby residents and started negotiating with Mr. Echaues.

Howard County police are searching for two men who robbed an elderly Highland man after forcing their way into the man's house at gunpoint late Monday night.Police said a 73-year-old man answered the door of his home in the 14100 block of Brighton Dam Road about 11 p.m. The man, whom police did not identify, told officers that he had a brief conversation with a man at the door before another man appeared carrying a shotgun.Both forced their way in, bound the resident and ransacked the house, police said.

A Williamsburg, Va., woman died Saturday Sept. 2 behind the wheel of her car while traveling southbound on Interstate 95 on Saturday, Maryland State Police officials said. The 58-year-old woman's name had not been released yesterday. Police said she might have died as a result of an unknown medical condition. There was a collision when her southbound car struck another a vehicle traveling northbound north on I-95. Police say said the accident was minor and that occupants of the other car contacted police - reporting that their vehicle was not damaged - and continued northbound on Interstate 895. The driver who called police and a female passenger are wanted for questioning about the accident.

Howard County and area police were seeking three men, two with guns, who forced their way into an Ellicott City apartment last night and robbed the lone male occupant of several pieces of electronics and other items. About 9:30 p.m., the 53- year-old victim opened the door of his residence in the 3100 block of Wheaton Way in the Normandy Woods Apartments after a knock by a person identifying himself as a United Parcel Service deliveryman, police said. After forcing their way in, the intruders bound the victim's feet and left a few minutes later.
