Woods loses his bully Teddy Greenstein Chicago Tribune Lucky guy, that Steve Williams. Now that he no longer has to carry Tiger Woods' bag, we can find out if he's actually a decent guy. For the last 12 years, he played the role of PGA Tour goon. He put a photographer's camera in a pond at the 2002 Skins Game and snatched a camera from a fan at the 2004 U.S. Open. That fan turned out to be an off-duty policeman. But that's what Woods needed.

EVERY HOME REPAIR guy likes to admire a job well-done. Gazing at a successfully completed project gives him a feeling of pride, a sense of accomplishment. Then there is the other end of the spectrum, the job you botched. It is an embarrassment. It reminds you of your limitations. Every time you walk past it, you look down at your shoes, or in my case recently, down at my bare feet.I botched the shower caddy job. Instead of standing up straight in the corner of the bathroom shower, providing a stable home for bars of soap and bottles of hair care products, my shower caddy is a slouch.

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A leaner, healthier Rocco Mediate fired a 3-under-par 69 and took the lead yesterday after three rounds of the Greater Greensboro Open. After making the turn at 3-over-par in Thursday's opening round, Mediate said a pep talk from his caddy got him turned around for an even-par 72 finish. A 66 on Friday left him five shots back, and a three-birdie round yesterday got Mediate into the top spot.Hip and back problems hampered his play last season and, on doctor's orders, Mediate has lost about 30 pounds and is down to about 210.As for the chase for the $225,000 first prize, Mike Reid, Brad Faxon and Tom Byrum are one shot off the lead at 208. Faxon and Byrum shot 70s, and Reid struggled to a 73 on a cool, windy afternoon.

TULSA, Okla. -- A little more than a decade ago, Jeff "Squeeky" Medlen was an unemployed bricklayer for U.S. Steel in his hometown of Gary, Ind.Now he is the most famous caddie -- not to mention the wealthiest -- in golf.Yesterday's victory in the 76th PGA Championship by Nick Price gave Medlen one more victory in this tournament than his boss. "I've been very lucky," said Medlen. That was certainly the case at the 1991 PGA at Crooked Stick, when Medlen carried the bag of an obscure rookie named John Daly after Price pulled out the day before the tournament began.

When Baltimore rapper Caddy Da Don , born David Rice, was released from prison in 2009 after serving a 2 1/2-year sentence for money laundering, he didn't waste time re-establishing himself as one of the city's most promising MCs. Last year, his club-banger "Grindin' on Me" found a regular home on radio station 92Q. Now, a year later, he's releasing his anticipated new mixtape, "Cut the Check," hosted by Maybach Music Group's DJ Scream.

SAM MONTGOMERY might have been the perfect guest on that old TV show "What's My Line?" As he signed in, the panel might well have been mystified by this 64-year-old retired Chartwell resident. He's a golf caddy.Since retiring from his more conventional job selling electronic equipment, he has spent at least three days a week playing golf and another three days carrying golf bags for others."I wanted to do something to keep me in shape," he says. "When I was 12 years old, I started caddying at the Bowling Green Country Club in Pennsylvania.

Tired of looking at it collect dust in front of Nick Markakis' locker, Jeremy Guthrie decided to put Markakis' golf bag to good use. Before yesterday's game, Guthrie packed the bag with Markakis' bats, gloves and even a towel. Guthrie then walked out to the outfield with the bag on his shoulder to greet Markakis, who was warming up. As Guthrie tended to the bag like he was serving as Markakis' caddie, Markakis grabbed a bat out of the bag and started swinging and then leaned down and grabbed a towel from the bag to wipe the sweat off his brow.

PHILADELPHIA -- Charles Barkley, who this season has made scathing comments about nearly everyone connected with the Philadelphia 76ers except the Spectrum organist, turned his wrath on a new target yesterday: general manager Gene Shue. With the Sixers about to miss the NBA playoffs for only the second time in 17 seasons, Barkley said that Shue, a former Sixers coach, had done nothing to improve the team since he rejoined it two years ago.Barkley called Shue "a clown whose only ambition is to caddie for [owner]
