The Towson men's lacrosse team scored in the second overtime to win, 10-9, against host Hofstra on Saturday. The Tigers (6-3, 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association) trailed 9-3 with 12:04 left in the fourth quarter but went on a 7-0 run to beat the Pride (4-5, 1-2). Thomas DeNapoli tied the game with two seconds left in regulation, and Justin Mabus had the final score with 38 seconds remaining in the second overtime. UMBC 16, Hartford 12: Joe Lustgarten had eight points to lead the Retrievers (3-4, 1-0 America East)

No. 17 Navy proved its resilience Wednesday night. Coming off a 20-8 loss to top-ranked Northwestern on Sunday, the Mids women's lacrosse team (11-2) opened with a big run and won, 15-5, over California. After trading goals in the opening six minutes, the Mids scored four straight to take a 5-1 lead. Jess Fellows scored on a free-position shot to end the spurt with 5:48 left in the first half. The Golden Bears (4-5) scored the next two before Navy went on an 8-0 run that spanned both halves.

Several attackmen from area schools on both the Division I and III levels earned weekly honors from their respective conferences. Loyola junior Mike Sawyer was recognized by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) as the Offensive Player of the Week. Sawyer amassed eight goals and two assists in the No. 7 Greyhounds' 11-6 victory over No. 20 Georgetown Tuesday night and 13-5 rout of UMBC Saturday night. Navy sophomore Sam Jones was named the Patriot League's Offensive Player of the Week.

Et cetera Mount loses, effectively ending postseason hopes Julian Norfleet had his sixth 20-point game of the season, but visiting Mount St. Mary's (7-21, 5-12 Northeast Conference) lost, 78-63, to Central Connecticut State (12-15, 9-8). The loss effectively ended any postseason for the Mount. ... Julian Watson hit the go-ahead jumper with 31 seconds left to lift visiting York (17-10) to a 61-58 win over St. Mary's (19-7) in a Capital Athletic Conference semifinal.

Devin Price hit 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions for Marist, breaking a 49-49 tie and sparking a 19-1 run as Marist defeated visiting Loyola on Wednesday night, 72-54. The Greyhounds (19-7 overall, 12-4 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) led by two with 7:22 left in the game when Dylon Cormier (Cardinal Gibbons) made a pair of free throws, but the Red Foxes (10-16, 5-10) tied the score 19 seconds later when Chavaughn Lewis threw a lob pass that Adam Kemp finished with a dunk.

Bradford Burgess scored 22 points and the host Virginia Commonwealth men's basketball team took advantage of every Towson turnover Wednesday night, beating the Tigers, 66-43. The Rams (21-5, 12-2 Colonial Athletic Association) have won 10 in a row and 18 of their past 20. The Tigers (1-25, 1-13) committed 28 turnovers. Burgess had been quiet in the previous four games, scoring eight, eight, nine and six points. He was 8-for-15 from the field, including 6-for-11 from behind the arc. D.J. Tony Gallo scored 19 of his 21 points in the second half, helping Coppin State overcome an eight-point deficit on its way to a 73-70 win over Hampton on Saturday night. The Eagles (10-11, 5-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) trailed 29-26 at halftime and twice trailed by eight points in the second half before rallying. Coppin led by one to three points over the final minute of play. It marked the first time all season the Eagles have won a game in which they trailed at the half after dropping all nine previous games in which they were behind.

Jeanine Manley made a free throw with 43 seconds left in regulation to force overtime and scored five of Coppin State's 12 points in the extra period to lead the visiting Eagles (11-10, 6-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) to a 69-66 win over Hampton (15-4, 7-1) on Saturday. Manley finished with 12 points. The Pirates led for most of the game and by as many as 12 before the Eagles rallied. Darryl Partin scored 17 points and host Boston University extended its winning streak to seven Tuesday with an 83-48 win over UMBC in men's basketball. In the first half, the Terriers went on a 10-0 run and outrebounded the Retrievers 24-11. Chase Plummer had 17 points for UMBC (2-6, 3-17).
