ANNAPOLIS -- A 21-year-old Annapolis man died after being shot in a taxicab last night on Monroe Street in Annapolis, Annapolis police said.Wayne Dwight Addison of the 100 block of Bright Water Drive was found shot several times in a cab in front of Sanky's Groceries, police said. He was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8: 30 p.m, police said.Police said a witness told them that a man with whom Addison, a passenger in the cab, had been arguing fired four shots at him through the cab window.

An Annapolis cab driver was in critical but stable condition yesterday at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center after being shot in the head during an attempted robbery Tuesday night.Stewart Owens Cole, a driver for Colonial Cab, told police he picked up three men in the area of Bay Ridge Gardens Apartments about 9 p.m. and drove them to the 1000 block Tallwood Road, where one of them announced the robbery, police said. Soon afterward, one of the men shot him in the back of the head.Mr. Cole, 44, lost control of the cab and ran off the road.

A 275-pound, 6-foot-7-inch taxi driver was robbed early today by two men who forced him into the trunk of his cab while the robbers drove around Baltimore and possibly robbed two drug dealers, city police said.Jeffrey Brink, 30, a driver for Diamond Cab Co., was released from the cab's trunk by a passerby about 7:20 a.m. in the 1400 block of Tenpin Alley, a half block north of Baltimore Street. He was uninjured.Mr. Brink told police he picked up two fares about 5:30 a.m. at Eager Street and Broadway.

A 22-year-old Glen Burnie man who was arrested in December after he called for a cab and instead got the police pleaded guilty yesterday to robbing a 7-Eleven store.Hilton Edward Brooks, of the 7800 block Myers Drive, will be sentenced Sept. 28.His lawyer tried unsuccessfully to persuade Judge Raymond G. Thieme Jr. that his client's actions didn't fit the legal definition of robbery.The clerk of the 7-Eleven store in the 500 block Donaldson Ave. in Severn told police that on Dec. 29, a man wearing a Los Angeles Raiders jacket had walked into the store with his hands in his pockets and said, "Pops, this is a stickup.

A 66-year-old Annapolis cab driver, charged with a narcotics violation during a sting operation against city cab drivers, was convicted in Circuit Court yesterday.George F. Tolson of the 900 block of President St. was convicted on a single count of distribution of cocaine after a two-day jury trial before Judge Martin A. Wolff.A total of 13 people were charged in the May 22 sting, which was part of a five-month investigation.According to testimony, Officer Pamela Johnson, an officer hired just a week earlier, posed as a cab customer looking for drugs.

O. Felix Townsend, who drove the streets of Baltimore for more than 50 years as a taxicab owner-operator, died Tuesday of heart failure at Millennium Health and Rehabilitation Center in Glen Burnie. The former Severna Park resident was 92. Born in Horntown on Virginia's Eastern Shore, Mr. Townsend spent his boyhood in Stockton, Va., before moving to Baltimore in the 1920s. He received a diploma from the old Baltimore Business College and was a clerk at Baker, Watts & Co., an investment banking company then at Calvert and Redwood streets in downtown Baltimore.

Two years ago, Pascal Bright was driving a cab, thinking he would find a job in computer network engineering. Today, he is an owner of the fast-growing Columbia Flyer taxi service that has made its mark as the second-largest cab company in the county. In a little more than a year, the company has nearly doubled in size, and is becoming known among area hotel managers. The company has begun an aggressive advertising campaign that includes posting fliers in apartment complexes, homes and businesses; and distributing coupons that give riders monthlong discounts on service.

A Glen Burnie man who was out of a car and out of luck Thursday took a cab to Freetown and was arrested on drug charges after police got a tip that he was buying drugs in the community.County police said a bicyclist told a patrol officer someone in a cab was buying drugs about 8: 30 p.m.The officer stopped the cab and searched the passenger. The cab driver told the officer to look in the man's socks for drugs. Police said the officer found a small amount of crack cocaine with a street value of $20. Police seized the drugs and $30 of the man's money and arrested him.Ricky Lee Jenkins, 35, of the 200 block of Woodhill Drive was charged with possession of crack cocaine.

A BWI Airport Taxi driver was killed last night when a stolen car - taken earlier in the day in a Timonium carjacking - ran a red light and slammed into his Ford Explorer cab at an intersection on the west side of downtown Baltimore, authorities reported. The car, a 1997 Toyota Camry, was stolen about 7:30 a.m. by a knife-wielding man who ordered its 70-year-old driver out of the car in the 200 block of Cinder Road in Timonium after robbing him of cash and credit cards, Baltimore County police said.
