While the Centennial baseball team has a firm hold on Division 1 in the county, the chase for the top spot in Division 2 remains up for grabs, with Howard finding its way into the mix. The Lions (11-3) went into the week on a nine-game winning streak -- capping last week's 3-0 effort with a key 6-5 win over Reservoir to grab a share of first place in the division. Howard, Reservoir and Atholton all went into the week with 9-3 county records. Howard coach Rich Jenkins said two familiar sources -- pitching and defense -- have played a big role in the team's success.

On Thursday, March 24, 2005, HOWARD CLAYTON SMITH beloved husband of Edna B. Smith (nee Ellis) loving and devoted father to Deborah K. Orpin and Donna L. Nodonly, father-in-law to Henry Orpin and David Nodonly, cherished grandfather to Randy Buxton, Kimberly Orpin and Lauren Orpin. He is also survived by two great-grandsons, Joshua and Spencer Buxton. Howard retired in 1985 as a Supervisor in the Electronic Test Department of BGE. He was a Past Master of the Glen Burnie Masonic Lodge #213 and Chairman of the Financial Advisory Board and By-Laws.
