Police arrested a Topeka, Kan., man Sunday on charges he tried to break into a Jessup home.Jeffrey Scott Stonesifer, 24, was charged with attempted burglary.Police went to a house in the 1900 block of Hilltop Road shortly before 3 a.m. after a burglar alarm sounded and found John Zisk on his front porch with a wooden club in his hand, arguing with another man.Zisk told police the man had knocked on his door but before Zisk could answer, the man began kicking the back door, which set off the burglar alarm.

County police are investigating smash-and-grab burglaries in Edgewater and Crownsville early Tuesday that they think might be related.The thefts were similar to four burglaries in Glen Burnie and Linthicum last Friday and Saturday in which thieves threw large rocks through store windows. Police said they are not sure whether all the burglaries are related.Police said a burglar alarm sounded at Private Collection, in the 3100 block of Solomon's Island Road, shortly before 4 a.m. Tuesday. When officers arrived, they found the front window had been smashed.

2 men, one with handgun, rob Crofton fast-food restaurantTwo men, one armed with a handgun, robbed a Crofton fast-food restaurant Monday night of an undetermined amount of money.Police said the men walked into Popeye's Chicken in the 1000 block of northbound Route 3 about 8:45 p.m. and ordered several employees to lie on the floor.One man stuck a small silver handgun into the manager's side and forced him to open the cash registers, police said. Authorities could not provide a description of the suspects.

Three Pasadena men have been charged with breaking into George Fox Middle School during the weekend, but authorities say nothing appears to have been taken.Police arrived at the school in the 7900 block of Outing Ave. a few minutes after midnight Saturday, when the burglar alarm sounded.Officers say the men escaped through a window. Two men were caught outside the school, police say. A third man has been charged in an arrest warrant.Charged with breaking and entering were: Thomas Daniel Green, 29, of the 1200 block of Ripple Court; Jerrold Bryan Fisher, 25, of the 700 block of 206th St.; and Scott Jeffery Steinheim, 24, of the 7700 block of Lee Dr. Mr. Steinheim was being sought yesterday, police say.

A police K-9 dog found a burglary suspect hiding in a storage room at the Pasadena Ames store yesterday morning, police said.Officer L. C. O'Connor and his dog, Bubba, went to the store in the 8100 block of Ritchie Highway about 1:30 a.m. to investigate a burglar alarm. After noticing that the store had a damaged window, Officer O'Connor searched the building for suspects, police said.Roberto Fernandez Molina, 25, of the 1100 block of Smithville St. in Annapolis was charged with burglary and destruction of property, police said.

A gunman robbed a Glen Burnie gas station and convenience store Wednesday of an undisclosed amount of money, county police said yesterday.The bandit walked into Uncle Marvin's Oasis in the 7700 block of Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd. about 11:05 p.m. and asked the clerk for a pack of cigarettes. While the clerk got the cigarettes, the man showed a handgun he had tucked in his waistband and demanded all the money from the cash register, police said.The clerk put the money in a brown bag and handed it to the robber, who fled the store and headed south on Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard.

Burglars broke into the Pasadena Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Tuesday and tried to pry open a safe, county police said.Police went to the post shortly before 4 a.m. after a burglar alarm sounded and found the front door ajar, but no one inside.The culprits used a sledgehammer and two crowbars to pry open a front door, setting off the alarm, and then used the tools to try to break into a storage room, police said. The burglars climbed atop a cigarette machine, crawled through a drop ceiling and into the closet, where they made an unsuccessful attempt to open the safe, police said.

The 38-year-old manager of a Hyattsville fast-food restaurant was found slain in his office yesterday, according to Prince George's County police.Police found Thomas Scott McQuade dead at 5 a.m. when they went to check a burglar alarm at a Hardee's restaurant in the 6500 block of New Hampshire Avenue, said police spokesman Cpl. James H. Shaffer. The officers found the restaurant's front door open and Mr. McQuade lying on the floor in a back office, Corporal Shaffer said.Mr. McQuade, who lived in the 4800 block of Lauren Court in Ellicott City, had been stabbed several times in the upper torso.

BALTIMORE -- Police investigating a break-in at a West Baltimore home earlier this week had an easy time finding their man -- the suspect left behind his driver's license in a jacket pocket.After obtaining a warrant, officers were able to arrest Al Gaymon, 31, of the 1900 block of McCulloh St., a few hours after the incident, which occurred about 9:15 a.m. Monday at a home in the 1200 block of John St.Mr. Gaymon was charged with one count of burglary and was released on $10,000 bail. Police said they found $3,500 worth of jewelry in the man's home.
