JUPITER, Fla. - The saga of Luis Rivera has taken another abrupt turn, though he ended up in the expected location - far removed from the 2001 season. The Orioles had announced that Rivera would receive a second magnetic resonance imaging on his right shoulder yesterday because the pitcher forgot to take the results with him to Birmingham, Ala., Monday. But they were shipped to orthopedic specialist Dr. James Andrews, who performed arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday to repair Rivera's torn glenoid labrum.

Sister Rose Marie Gerace, 89, nun and social worker Sister Rose Marie Gerace, a nun in the Daughters of Charity who had been a social worker, died of cancer Saturday at Villa St. Michael, her order's retirement home in Emmitsburg. She was 89. Rosina Maria Gerace was born in Harrisburg, Pa., and entered the Roman Catholic order in 1931. She professed her vows in 1936 and took the religious name of Sister Rose Marie. After earning a bachelor's degree from St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg in 1946 and a master's in social work from Boston College two years later, she held several administrative positions in Catholic institutions and then became a caseworker for Catholic Charities in Philadelphia.

BOWIE -- The first batter following a two-hour, three-minute rain delay singled home the lone run to give the Harrisburg Senators a 1-0 Eastern League victory over Bowie at Prince George's Stadium in the opener of a scheduled doubleheader last night.The second game was rained out, but no makeup date was announced.Todd Revenig had just replaced Bowie starter Shane Hale with two runners on and none out in the fifth inning. Jose Vidro twice unsuccessfully tried to sacrifice before grounding a shot off first baseman Tommy Davis' glove to score ex-Baysox player Rob Lukachyk from second.
