Grandmother of Alexandra, Spencer, Sara, Catherine, Ford Davis, Melissa Johnson and the late Emily Davis; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Interment is private. Memorial Service to be announced.

Bruce Davis' father was dying, that much was clear. While others might have hoped for a miracle, neither Bruce nor his father had the capacity for delusion. They had at least that much in common, a faith in the empirical, an appreciation of the observable and the measurable. And what could be observed and measured on Gibson Island in the autumn of 1996 was that time was collapsing for Dr. Hugh Davis.Each day removed a measure of weight and color from Davis, whose vitality and arrogance once made lecture halls at Johns Hopkins medical school seem all too confining.

On April 15, 2005, ROSA-SEDDON DAVIS, formerly of Baltimore, wife of the late Alanson Davis. Daughter of the late James Holmes and the late Rosalie Rutherfoord Holmes. She is survived by her daughter, Martha Davis Kelly, of Hartford, CT, and her son Bruce Barnum Davis, both of Vienna, VA; and two grandchildren. Also two brothers, James Holmes, of Wilmington, DE, and A. Rutherfoord Holmes, of Sykesville, MD. Services will be held in Summit, NJ on Saturday, April 23, 2005. Interment in Nantucket, MA at a later dater.

UCLA is 12th nationally in rush defense (89.9 ypg). The game -- UCLA is coming in off a victory over archrival USC, which kept the Trojans out of the national title game. The Bruins aren't impressive offensively (76th nationally at 321.4 ypg), but the defense has been stout for most of the season.

John G. Roberts Sr., a retired steel executive, former general manager of Bethlehem Steel Corp.'s Sparrows Point plant and father of the chief justice of the United States, John G. Roberts Jr., died yesterday of respiratory failure at his Ellicott City home. He was 80. Mr. Roberts, the youngest of 10 children, was born and raised in Johnstown, Pa. After graduating from high school in 1946, he served in the Army for several years. After earning a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1951, he began his career with Bethlehem Steel at the company's plant in Lackawanna, N.Y. In 1963, he was promoted to electrical engineer at the company's new plant in Burns Harbor, Ind., and later was superintendent of its electrical department and finally assistant general manager in 1976.
