For Broadneck's boys soccer team, the school year has just begun, yet it is already time for report cards. The grades will come in tonight when the sixth-ranked Bruins (1-1) face Chesapeake-Anne Arundel at 7:30."Chesapeake. Now, that's a big game," coach Kevin McMullen said in the wake of Broadneck's 2-0 defeat at No. 3 Severna Park last night. The loss left Broadneck's playoff boat listing, if not actually dead in the water.McMullen downplayed the game all week, but saw enough to leave him visibly concerned heading into Chesapeake.

— No. 3 Broadneck's quest for its first state championship hit a roadblock in Prince George's County's Wise. The host Pumas (12-1) used an opportunistic defense and 112 second-half yards from Uriah Bethea to turn a one-point halftime deficit into a 14-7 win and another trip to the Class 4A state championship game. Wise, who lost by a point to Old Mill in last year's title game, will play Frederick County's Urbana, which defeated Gaithersburg 37-6 Friday night in the other semifinal, in the Class 4A state final at 7:30 p.m. Friday at M&T Bank Stadium.

If it wasn't Amy Brew at one end of the field, it was Kate Brew at the other. Or Annapolis' other set of sisters, Cristi and Stephy Samaras, at the offensive end with Amy.Amy had two goals, Cristi had two goals and two assists, Stephy had one and goalie Kate had 12 saves. The sisters' combined efforts were enough to overwhelm No. 8 Broadneck. No. 5 Annapolis remained undefeated with its fifth straight victory yesterday, 9-5 over the host Bruins (2-2).The game served as a tuneup for both teams for their confrontations this week with No. 1 Severna Park.
