No. 3 North Harford played tension-free baseball Wednesday, which resulted in one of the Hawks' most dominating performances of the season. Senior Cody Brittain threw a one-hitter as North Harford rattled off 11 hits and defeated C. Milton Wright, 10-0, in five innings. "We were very relaxed," said Brittain, who improved to 4-1 and lowered his ERA to 1.20. "We were as relaxed as we've ever been. We knew what we could do. I felt if I pitched as well as I could, my teammates would be behind me the whole time.

Finksburg's Charles Brittain always has enjoyed the fast lane.He has been involved in racing for more than 18 years and was a regular at Dorsey Speedway as a crew member on a championship late-model team. He raced a couple of times in the daring Figure-8 division.After Dorsey closed, Brittain turned to drag racing, where a lot of his friends were competing. He found it less exciting and more expensive than oval racing. Three years ago, he discovered an affordable way to race -- go-karts."Racing cars was becoming too expensive," said Brittain.

Ravens running back Bam Morris, already facing charges of violating probation, was charged with second-degree assault of a Texas woman at a birthday party Sunday night for one of his teammates.The alleged incident occurred at Martin's West in Woodlawn after the Ravens' 10-10 tie with the Philadelphia Eagles at Memorial Stadium. Many players attended the party.According to a Baltimore County police report, Morris, 25, and his wife, Stephanie, were involved in an argument with April Dawn Brittain, 27, of Dallas, when Morris grabbed Brittain by the arms, choked her and hit her in the back, causing scratches on her chest and red marks on her neck.

Kim Brittain has cried plenty over the past few months, but yesterday she wept tears of joy.That's because doctors have scheduled a bone marrow transplant for her 2-year-old son, Austin, after neighbors and strangers rallied to raise $56,000 to pay for the operation. Brittain tearfully thanked everyone who sent money, cards and letters."The response was overwhelming, more than we thought," Brittain said yesterday from her Norrisville home in Harford County. "I just want to let everyone know that Austin is doing well, that he is strong, and that we are so grateful."

It would seem to be a crushing weight for a toddler to bear.At almost 2 years old, Austin Brittain has endured more than most adults. He was diagnosed with Down syndrome when he was born. Three days later, doctors discovered a bowel disorder that left Austin's tiny body arched with pain and saddled with a colostomy bag. Shortly afterward, the Brittains were told he might have leukemia.Now Austin is facing his most difficult challenge -- a possible bone marrow transplant from his 4-year-old brother, who has been identified as a donor.

On Thursday, March 3, 2005, MRS. MARY G. "MAYME" QUINLIVAN, age 81, at her home in Greensboro, NC, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Quinlivan was born on February 11, 1924 in Albany, Alabama, a daughter of the late Ollie and Blanche Bennett Schrickel and moved to Greensboro in 2004 from Harlingen, TX. She was of the Catholic faith. Survivors include her husband J. Roger Quinlivan of the home, a son, Michael Quinlivan and wife Kay of Greensboro, a daughter Cindy Brittain and husband Bob of Chestertown, MD, a brother, Ollie Eugene Schrickel, Jr. and wife Helen of Arlington, TX, two sisters, Margaret Huff of Arlington, TX, and Blanche Brown of Ft. Worth, TX, three grandchildren, Miles G. Quinlivan, Michelle C. Quinlivan and Daniel O. Brittain.

For three weeks, she had sat in a courtroom, listening as prosecutors described how Robert Knighton and an accomplice robbed and shot her adoptive father and his wife. As the trial wore on and the guilty verdicts came, her unease had grown. And now that the jury was trying to decide whether Knighton should die for his crime, the Arkansas City woman knew she had to tell him what was in her heart.

Ravens running back Bam Morris, due to appear in a Rockwall County, Texas, court on Tuesday to face charges that he violated his probation for drug possession, will not be ordered to report earlier than expected, following his latest legal scrape.Rockwall District Attorney Ray Sumrow said, in light of Morris being charged Monday with the second-degree assault of a Dallas woman at a teammate's birthday party Sunday night in Baltimore County, the Texas court would not compel him to appear in Rockwall before Nov. 25."

Hampstead man gets year for probation violation in DWI caseA Hampstead man who violated probation by failing to report to a drinking and driving monitor was sentenced yesterday to a year in the county jail, court records show.Charles E. Brittain IV, 23, of the 4300 block of Downhill Trail was given credit for having served 15 days in jail on the driving-while-intoxicated charge.Court records show Brittain was pulled over for speeding in Westminster in April 1997. He was charged with speeding -- more than 15 mph over the limit -- and drunken driving when his blood-alcohol content registered 0.11, slightly above the legal limit for state motorists.
