The North St. John's dive team has completed yet another undefeated season. At a meet that began July 19 and ended July 23, North St. John's defeated Forest Hill, 59.5 - 29.5, at Forest Hill. In its last meet of the season, North St. John's hosted Frederick and won, 56-23. There were multiple qualifying scores in both meets. North St. John's results: Forest Hill meet 6-UG: 2. Jamie Kraft, 27.2. 8-UG: 1. Arya Gupta, 58.40 (Q); 2. Logan Scarbath, 53.30; 3. Katie Boyle, 51.10; 4. Anna Suri, 48.10.

COLLEGE PARK -- Team Serious finished business last night.No. 3 Southern-B won its second state 4A championship in three seasons, routing Northwestern of Prince George's County, ranked No. 9 in the Washington area, 64-41, at the University of Maryland last night.Dedric Galloway and Marlin Wise led a balanced attack for Southern (24-3) with 15 points each and John Hemsley added 12. Sean Smith led Northwestern (17-7) with 10 points.In winning its third state championship in four seasons, Southern, ranked No. 16 nationally by USA Today, also gave Baltimore City seven state titles in four seasons and a 61-8 record in tournament play.

North St. John's North St. John's opened its diving season with two meets that ended with a score for different circumstances. The meet against Frederick was called because of thunder, then finished up the next day at each team's home pool. North St. John's was named the winner because it was ahead when the meet was called originally. Crosby is not fielding a team this year, so North St. John's and West Howard, one which had a bye and won which had the day off, decided to dive against each other with the opportunity to provide another chance to qualify for the league championships.

A CONSTRUCTION WORKER blows up himself and his family in a parking lot in Essex rather than endure a painful separation. A Prince George's County man shoots the man who left his daughter, then turns the gun on the man's new girlfriend and himself. A Harford County man douses his pregnant wife with gasoline and threatens to set her ablaze before police intervene.Now add last week's murder-suicide to the tragic litany: An unemployed handyman, Brian Kennedy, shot himself and his 7-year-old son in the Severna Park home of his estranged wife, apparently because he was overwhelmed by personal problems.

The Central Maryland Dive League finished up the 2011 summer diving season with the CMDL Individual Championships July 31. West Howard Swim Club played host to the 10-hour sun-drenched meet. With temperatures climbing into the low 90's, 120 divers from Aberdeen to Annapolis to Frederick and points between showed their best form in an effort to stand on the top of the podium. Howard County was well represented by 39 meet qualifying divers from three county pools — Forest Hill, North St. John's and West Howard.

A Severna Park man shot and killed his 7-year-old son yesterday before turning the gun on himself, Anne Arundel County police said.Brian Lance Kennedy, 39, was found shot to death with his son, Gabriel Kennedy, in the bedroom of Mr. Kennedy's waterfront house in the 300 block of Magothy Road.The bodies were found by Gabriel's mother, Mr. Kennedy's estranged wife,, who became concerned when Gabriel's school called her yesterday afternoon and told her he had not come to school.She went to Mr. Kennedy's house about 4:30 p.m. and discovered the doors locked.
