A 35-year-old Pikesville man was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison Tuesday for conspiring to deal drugs and to commit a string of armed robberies at fast food chains and a Dollar Tree store, the Maryland U.S. Attorney's Office announced. Brian Johnson, 35, and others robbed two McDonald's and a Wendy's in Baltimore County in December 2009 and a Burger King and Dollar Tree store in the city that month, netting about $1,280, according to prosecutors. Johnson also admitted conspiring to distribute heroin, cocaine, crack and marijuana in the city from 1996 to 2009.

Howard County Police are searching for a man who, while being escorted from an Ellicott City restaurant Wednesday night, stabbed a security officer in the neck. Officers were called just after 10 p.m. to the La Palapa Grill in the 8300 block of Main Street where security guard Brian Johnson, 44, of Rockville was stabbed with an unknown sharp object, police said. Johnson was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center and was released Thursday, police said. The patron and his acquaintances then fled on foot in different directions on Main Street, police said.

Eleven county high school bands competed in the District Band Festival Saturday at North Carroll High.The Westminster Select Band received a superior rating, which qualified members for participation inthe Maryland Band Festival, set for May 8 and 9 at Westminster High.Westminster's Concert and Symphonic bands each received an excellent rating."The kids did well, with no glaring errors," said JeffRogers, Westminster instrumental music teacher, adding he was "very pleased" with the performances.

An off-duty police officer who died following a car crash in Pasadena on Saturday morning had shot himself first, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department. Bladensburg Police Officer Brian Johnson, 38, was driving a marked police car on eastbound Route 100 near Catherine Avenue at 9 a.m. on Saturday when it veered across the median and struck an oncoming vehicle, police said. Johnson was pronounced dead at Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie. Police said the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the cause of Johnson's death was a gunshot wound to his upper body.
