Sam Perlozzo, Orioles manager What did you think of minor league pitcher Brandon Erbe during the Hall of Fame Game? He was pretty darn good. Leo [Mazzone] had actually talked to him in the later innings and worked on his curveball a little bit, and he picked it up immediately. ... It looks like we have a future pitcher on our hands.

Double-A Eastern League Akron 4, Bowie 3: Nathan Panther's sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth broke a 3-3 tie. Marino Salas (0-1) took the loss. Single-A Carolina League Wilmington 3, Frederick 2: Visiting Wilmington scored twice in the sixth to go ahead for good. Single-A South Atlantic League Lakewood 5, Delmarva 2 : Brandon Erbe's control problems allowed the host Blueclaws (11-15)

Junior starter Travis White scattered seven hits and struck out four through five innings to pick up the win as McDonogh surprised top-ranked St. Paul's, 4-3, in Brooklandville yesterday. White also had two hits for the Eagles, who jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second inning and never trailed against St. Paul's, playing its first Baltimore-area game after a training trip to Hawaii. Josh Napora and Brandon Erbe also had two hits apiece, helping McDonogh improve to 2-0 following Monday's win over Loyola.

The Baltimore Sun's Peter Schmuck checks in with assorted notes and soundbites leading up to today's Orioles-Red Sox game at City of Palms Park in Fort Myer Troy Patton was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk today, but not because he did anything wrong. In fact, Dave Trembley was very impressed with his performance in yesterday's "B" game against the Pirates in Bradenton. "Patton was very good," Trembley said. "We had him at 91 (mph). That's the best I've seen him since the surgery.

FanFest, the Orioles' annual preseason celebration, comes to the Baltimore Convention Center on Saturday. The event, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., will feature appearances by and autograph opportunities with nearly the entire Orioles team, as well as former players Mike Bordick, Rick Dempsey, Mike Flanagan, Ross Grimsley, Dick Hall, Tippy Martinez, Scott McGregor, Joe Orsulak, Jim Palmer, Boog Powell and Larry Sheets. Manager Buck Showalter and new bench coach Willie Randolph will be present, as will minor leaguer pitchers Zach Britton and Brandon Erbe.
