Businesses in Annapolis near where President Barack Obama met with Senate Democrats on Wednesday said road closures for security were affecting them, with some shutting their doors. "I had to shut down until 2. Nobody can get in," said Riccardo Santoro, owner of Varuna Aveda Salon Spa in the Park Place complex, adjacent to the meeting. He said the closing, due to the expected traffic woes, was his decision — and he expected to lose about $1,200 in revenue. City streets closed right around Westgate Circle, where the Westin Annapolis hotel is located.

Meghan Rafferty, assistant branch manager of its Park Avenue branch in Bel Air, is the winner of Freedom Federal Credit Union's quarterly "Core Value Award," which recognizes Freedom employees who continuously demonstrate support of Freedom's unique core values established as a vision and guidance for all employees in their commitment to serve Freedom members, fellow employees and the Harford County community. Charles Pomeroy Ives III, a state of Maryland telecommunications worker who immersed himself in history causes from North Point to Carroll County, died in his sleep of a circulatory illness Oct. 20 at his Stoneleigh home. He was 63. Born in Elizabeth, N.J., and raised in Loch Raven Village, he was a 1967 Towson High School graduate. He had belonged to the Boy Scouts. His grandfather, C.P. Ives, was a Sun editorial writer from 1939 to 1973. Mr. Ives earned a bachelor's degree in history at Thiel College in Greenville, Pa. He worked at Baltimore banks, the Venable law firm and Ciena.

UPDATED - Baltimore County police said a man was arrested Aug. 17, in connection with a robbery that occurred this morning at the PNC Bank branch located inside the Giant Food in Towson. According to Elise Armacost, director of media and communications for the Police Department, the incident occurred Friday, Aug. 17, at about 10:30 a.m. Armacost said a man entered the supermarket branch in the 6300 block of York Road and passed the branch manager a note demanding money and threatening "bodily harm," she said.
