On Saturday, January 1, 2005, WILLIAM E. BRODOWSKI (age 77), of Brandywine, MD. He is survived by his daughter, Edythe Brown (Ron); six grandchildren, Christian Paul, Bethany, Jonathan, Timothy, Benjamin, and Daniel; two sisters, Naomi Staup and Lillian Noel (Lee); special nieces, nephews, and special friends Darlene Soltis and family. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Dewey Brodowski. Family and friends will gather Tuesday, January 4 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 W. Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 5, 10:30 A.M. in Bethany Lutheran Church, 2501 Beacon Hill Road, Alexandria, VA 22306.

Winfield: Firefighters from Winfield, Mount Airy and New Windsor responded at 7: 12 p.m. Saturday to a chimney fire in the 2400 block of Braddock Road. Units were out two hours, 20 minutes.

Two Carroll County men were killed when their pickup trucks collided on Braddock Road about one mile east of Route 27 at 8:40 p.m. Monday.State police said Michael Lee Fincham, 21, of the 4700 block of Arthur Shipley Road in Sykesville was driving his 1995 Ford F-250 pickup west on Braddock Road when he crossed the double center line to pass another vehicle on a slight curve. The vehicle ran off the left shoulder of the road, came back onto it and was struck broadside by a 1985 Ford Ranger, which was going east.

A woman and her 5-year-old son were treated for minor injuries at Carroll County General Hospital and released after their auto collided with a truck on Ridge Road at Braddock Road in Winfield early yesterday.State police said Margaret Riddle, 47, of the 6500 block of Davis Road, Mount Airy, and her son Phillip were northbound, approaching Braddock Road on Route 27 about 7 a.m. when a southbound truck swerved across the center line into their path.Officers said Charles W. Cornett Jr., 28, of the 600 block of Cornett Road, Sykesville, the driver of a 1991 International truck, said he lost his brakes as he tried to slow down to avoid hitting another car that was stopped to make a left turn onto Braddock Road.

A Harford County woman was killed yesterday when her car was struck by another vehicle on Liberty Road in the Winfield section of Carroll County, state police said.The victim, Shirley Ann Jones, 59, of Holloway Road in Darlington, was eastbound on Liberty Road about 2: 30 p.m. when a westbound 1997 Kia Sportage sport utility vehicle crossed the center line and struck her 1986 Plymouth head-on, police said.The driver of the Kia, Linda Dupree, 44, of the 2500 block of Braddock Road in Mount Airy, was in serious condition at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

The Carroll Board of Zoning Appeals has denied a request from a Mount Airy man to store contractor's equipment in buildings behind his home in Gosnell Estates.William D. Arterburn of the 2400 block of Braddock Road is a self-employed contractor who specializes in installing aluminum siding. He told the board he usually moves his equipment from one job site to the next but has had to store it at home because business has been slow.Neighbors had complained about the equipment.Board members wrote in their decision Friday that the storage area would be incompatible with the neighborhood, would hurt the values of adjoining properties and be detrimental to orderly growth.

A Sykesville driver was injured in an accident Tuesday evening near Mount Airy, when a second driver apparently failed to see him making a left turn, pulled out to pass and hit his car, according to Maryland State Police at the Westminster barracks.Walter L. Kunkle, 51, of the 700 block of Old Liberty Road, was treated at Carroll County General Hospital.He was turning left from Ridge Road on to Gillis Falls Road about 7: 20 p.m. when Louise Elizabeth Rowland, 30, of the 2400 block of Braddock Road, Mount Airy, pulled past a truck stopped behind Kunkle's 1993 Ford in her 1995 Saab, police said.
