Brad Davis

Brad Davis, who played an American imprisoned in Turkey for hashish smuggling in the harrowing 1978 movie "Midnight Express," died Sunday in Los Angeles of complications from AIDS. He was 41. Mr. Davis won a Golden Globe for "Midnight Express." He also starred in 1985 in the New York stage production of "The Normal Heart," a drama about the AIDS epidemic. In the Oscar winner "Chariots of Fire" in 1981, Mr. Davis portrayed American runner Jackson Scholz.Alex North, 81, who wrote musical scores for such movies as "A Streetcar Named Desire," "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" and "Spartacus," died of cancer Sunday in Los Angeles.
