The young boys involved in the shooting death of Monae Turnage, whose body they hid under trash bags in an East Baltimore alley, were sentenced in juvenile court Wednesday. The 13-year-old who said he pulled the trigger will be committed indefinitely to a treatment facility; the 12-year-old who helped him move the body will be monitored by the Department of Juvenile Services while living with a relative in Harford County. But the family of Monae — the bubbly 13-year-old who wanted to be a pediatrician — sat outside the downtown Juvenile Justice Center after the hearing, stunned at the outcome.

Vince Ciattei Perry Hall, senior After earning a spot on the All-Metro first team for cross country in the fall and indoor track in the winter, Ciattei took an extra step this spring. The senior dominated the competition in outdoor track and field, winning all of his 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs in his final high school season. Ciattei won the Class 4A races for the 800 and 1,600 in the state championships at Morgan State last month, but he didn't take part in the 3,200 at that meet.

The drawings for the boys and girls state basketball playoff brackets took place Sunday at Long Reach. The first round for the girls is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, while the boys are set to play first-round games on Tuesday, Feb. 26. A federal judge sentenced a Pennsylvania man to 10 years in prison for making videos of boys using urinals at two I-95 Cecil and Harford county rest stops last May. Brian Matthew Williams, 28, loitered at the Maryland House and Chesapeake House rest stops for five hours last May filming boys on his cell phone from an adjacent urinal, authorities said. After taking the video, he would follow them out and take full length photos of them. He made 21 videos in all. The parents of one of the victims reported Williams' suspicious actions and he was arrested by Maryland State Police.

Teyarnte Carter Mount Hebron The Vikings boys won the Class 3A state championship at Morgan State last month, the first outdoor track and field team title in school history. Under Carter and coaches Leigh Langmead and Paul Ulrich, No. 3 Mount Hebron edged No. 4 Hereford, 58-55, at the meet. The Vikings had won the Howard County and East regional meets earlier in the spring. Carter, the All-Metro Performer of the Year and Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year for girls track and field as a senior at Long Reach in 2000, helped the Mount Hebron boys come together this spring.

Towson psychiatrist Miguel Frontera's license to practice in Maryland has been permanently revoked after the state board that oversees doctors found that he had inappropriate contact with boys in his care, and Baltimore County police confirm that a criminal investigation is underway. The Maryland Board of Physicians found that the psychiatrist, licensed in the state since 1988, acted improperly in a dozen cases, all involving pre-teen boys, some of whom came forward after the investigation began late last year.

Bel Air boys lacrosse coach Scoop Kelly had twice the satisfaction when his Bobcats defeated Franklin, 14-10, on Monday in the Class 4A-3A South regional semifinals. Not only did Bel Air (12-3) move one step closer to an appearance in the state tournament, but Kelly also notched his 100th career win. On Wednesday, Bel Air travels to Howard, a 20-3 winner over Kenwood in the region's other semifinal game, in a bid to reach the state tournament for the second straight year.

It didn't take long for the first big upset in the Baltimore area in boys basketball. St. Vincent Pallotti, which finished as runner-up in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference last season, stunned A Conference powerhouse Mount St. Joseph, 79-73, in its opener Monday. The Panthers have a stong returning group from last year's team that fell to Gilman in the B title game and they went right to work, building a big lead and then holding off the Gaels for the win.
