The Hamilton Nationals traded defensive midfielder Dan Burns (Severna Park, Maryland) to the Chesapeake Bayhawks on Friday, the day Major League Lacrosse's 23-man rosters were released. The Bayhawks sent midfielder John Austin, the No. 8 overall pick in the 2013 supplemental draft and the No. 15 selection in the 2013 Collegiate Draft to Hamilton in return. Also, the Boston Cannons traded a fifth-round pick in the 2014 Collegiate Draft to the Bayhawks for midfielder Brent Adams. Burns, a Baltimore resident, is one of the league's fastest players and will add depth to a Bayhawks defensive midfield corps that includes Matt Abbott and Jeff Reynolds, who could be tied up with National Lacrosse League commitments during the first part of the 2013 MLL season.

After the game, the Bayhawks contended that the presence of former coach Brian Voelker in the other team's lineup provided no extra motivation, and that facing him wasn't even mentioned during the week. Regardless, the Bayhawks did yesterday what they struggled to do at times last season under Voelker: They played near-perfect defense and put a team away when they had the opportunity. Thanks in large part to goalie Greg Cattrano, the Bayhawks forced the Boston Cannons into two long scoring droughts as they ended a two-game losing streak with a 15-7, non-divisional victory in front of 3,307 sun-drenched fans at Ravens Stadium.

Boston Cannons attackman Paul Rabil had two goals, including a two-pointer, and an assist Saturday in a 17-15 win over the Ohio Machine, giving him the new Major League Lacrosse single-season points record of 72. Rabil, who won two NCAA championships at Johns Hopkins, received credit for the assist during a review after the game, which was the regular-season finale for the Cannons. The league confirmed the record Monday, lifting Rabil past the 71 points that current Chesapeake Bayhawks attackman John Grant Jr. scored in 2007 with the Rochester Rattlers.
