It didn't start pretty for the Chesapeake Bayhawks during Saturday's Major League Lacrosse semifinal at Harvard Stadium in Cambridge, Mass., but a momentum-changing string of four points in 48 seconds left the Bayhawks smiling at the end. Kyle Dixon, the man dubbed Reggie Miller for his record-holding 28 two-point goals this season, scored back-to-back deuces in the second quarter to rally Chesapeake (11-4) past the Boston Cannons (9-6) with a 16-10 victory. The Bayhawks will look to become the first team in MLL history to win four league titles as they take the field against the Denver Outlaws (12-3)

Boyle used an inside spin move to beat defenseman Michael Evans (Johns Hopkins, South River) from behind and fired a short shot past goalkeeper Kip Turner (Severn) to bring an end to a wild, back-and-forth affair. Boyle, the all-time leading scorer in Major League Lacrosse with 410 points, finished with three goals and two assists.

Zone defense is the flavor of the month. What was once thought to be a "less macho" approach is being used by Top 20 teams. Teams who have historically utilized man-to-man schemes have showcased zone defense this spring. North Carolina shut down Maryland for three quarters with a zone defense and won. Expect Johns Hopkins to copy the Tar Heels' strategy and give the Terps a dosage of zone. Georgetown nearly upset Syracuse with a zone. Princeton, Hopkins, Syracuse and even Virginia are playing zone defense in 2011.

A new Guinness Book of World Records was released this week, filled with the world's longest, fastest, biggest, smallest, most prolific and most substantial. Included among this compelling compendium of the world's greatest are a handful of Marylanders -- although (sadly) Ocean City is not included; Last month, it fell a few hundred two-pieces short in its attempt to establish a world record for most participants in a bikini parade. Ridgely's Chad Elchin, for instance, has reigned for 11 years as the record holder for most consecutive loops with a hang glider.
