The Borromeo String Quartet opened the Candlelight Concert Society's 24th season on a high note Saturday night with a stunning recital of the music of Mozart, Shostakovich and Schubert, which brought a deserved standing ovation.Should this quartet remain together -- not all do -- it has the potential to blossom into an ensemble of the first rank. The first violinist, Nicholas Kitchen, has a glorious Stradivarius and he has the artistry to maximize its treasures. Second violinist Ruggero Allifranchini delights in sensitively partnering as well as in soloing.

On July 25, 2005, STANLEY T. PINKNER, 68, of Chochowinity, NC. Son of the late Maurice Pickner and Nettie Kramer Pinkner. He was a retired veteran of the US Navy, having served on the USS Saratoga and USS Hancock. He was on the CINCPAC Fleet Staff and worked with the Bureau of Navy Personnel. He was a member of the DAV and Mother of Mercy Catholic Church. He was a Eucharistic Minister and Member of the Knights of Columbus Third Degree. Survivors include his close friends, Paul and Patricia Coakley of Cypress Landing, NC, and many cousins in MD. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11 A.M, Thursday, July 28 at Mother of Mercy Catholic Church.
