Every morning when Nancy Lee Riggins came to work at the Giant Food store in Burtonsville, she called out to co-worker Terrie Borja. "Hey, trouble!" she'd say. "Hey, maker!" Borja would reply. Like other colleagues, Borja came to expect Riggins' unflagging good humor and reliability at work. That's why she remembers so clearly July 1, 1996, the day Riggins disappeared: She was wearing a mustard-yellow top and matching culottes to work and looked distressed - an expression none of her many friends associated with Riggins.

Wichita Wings midfielder Chico Borja has been absolved of wrongdoing in the Jan. 11 collision that has sidelined Baltimore Blast goalkeeper Scott Manning with a sprained right knee.Major Soccer League commissioner Earl Foreman said yesterday, "I did not find conclusive evidence that Chico Borja tried to intentionally injure Scott Manning."The decision by Foreman didn't sit well with Manning and Blast owner Ed Hale."It's very consistent with the way the league is run," Manning said sarcastically.

Blast fans aren't fond of Wichita Wing Chico Borja. They picture him doing everything in his power to beat the Blast, right down to pushing, shoving and kicking. Past injuries to forward Tim Wittman and goalkeeper Scott Manning have been laid at his soccer shoes.Around here, Chico Borja is perceived as a "dirty" player. But one of the best pictures of Borja, and one of total contrast, came during the Major Soccer League All-Star Game last month. As a member of the East team under the direction of Blast coach Kenny Cooper, Borja scored five points and combined with Blast veterans Billy Ronson, Manning, Dale Mitchell and Domenic Mobilio to earn the victory.

Scott Manning tried his best to be diplomatic about Chico Borja as he spoke yesterday morning from his Wichita, Kan., hotel room. But it wasn't easy.Manning had been sidelined for the second time in less than two years by a hard Borja tackle, and he remembered how the Wichita Wings midfielder put Tim Wittman out for most of the 1989 playoffs with a hit from behind.Manning, the Baltimore Blast's outstanding goalkeeper, will be out three to four weeks with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee after being hit by Borja in Friday night's 7-6 overtime loss to the Wings in Wichita.

Blast coach Kenny Cooper and goalkeeper Scott Manning say they will put the Chico Borja affair behind them. But fans of grudge matches might want to circle March 15 on the calendar, just in case. That's the next time the Blast faces Wichita and Borja, and the game just happens to be at the Arena."We'll move forward from here," Cooper said yesterday after Major Soccer League commissioner Earl Foreman told the Blast he would not punish Borja, a forward with the Wings. The Blast had sent a letter to Foreman, charging that Borja intentionally tried to injure Manning in a Jan. 11 game.

I'm a woman of a "certain age" who has had a lot of medical problems. The last one was open-heart surgery, and it left me with a scar down the center of my chest.I am skinny, bony and look frail. I do have an interest in fashion, and I try to look my best, no matter how bad I feel. Next month my friends are planning to take me to lunch in the town's best restaurant to celebrate my recovery.I want a good-looking suit or dress to wear. What do you suggest?A well-shaped jacket is the best way to hide figure faults.

Q: I love animal prints. They look good on me, and they work with both my summer and winter wardrobes. I hear they are back again this season. I want to go shopping soon. Can you tell me what I should look for?A: Crocodile prints -- in many different sizes -- are the designers' choice for fall. You'll find them on ready-to-wear and on accessories such as scarves, tights and gloves.Todd Oldham, who is known for his colorful, exotic prints, says crocodiles are his pick of the season. He uses them -- in natural colors -- on his jackets, blouses, pants and skirts.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Scott Manning had given up six of the eight goals scored by the West in last night's Major Soccer League All-Star Game at Kemper Arena. But a pair of saves by the Blast goalkeeper with about one minute to play in the fourth quarter was even more pivotal in the East All-Stars' 9-8 overtime victory."A save can turn a game around," said Blast coach Kenny Cooper, who directed the East All-Stars. "It ignited everybody. It inspired everybody on the bench."Thus fortified, Chico Borja of the Wichita Wings scored the game-winner 25 seconds into the overtime giving the East the victory in the second-highest scoring all-star in the MSL's 12-year history.
