Bloom

Like "The Secret Garden" that gives this 1991 Broadway musical its title, the production at Cockpit in Court Summer Theatre takes a while to blossom. It has its share of vocal highlights and always remains enjoyable, but the story's powerful emotions are fitfully conveyed before finally coming across with full force at the end. The reason partly lies in the musical itself. Based on the beloved 1911 children's novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, the story concerns a 10-year-old girl, Mary Lennox, who is orphaned when her parents suddenly die in India.

Dr. Harry E. Bloom Sr., 81, a retired ophthalmologist, died Friday at Meridian Long Green Nursing Home after a short illness.Services were held yesterday at the Ruck-Towson funeral establishment, 1050 York Road.Dr. Bloom was born in Beaver Falls, Pa., the son of Aaron and Hilma Bloom. He graduated from Geneva College near Pittsburgh in 1930 and received his doctorate in ophthalmology from Johns Hopkins University Medical School in 1934. After a residency at Baltimore City Hospitals, he entered private practice in downtown Baltimore in 1937.

On July 8, 2006, ROLAND E. "Skinner" BLOOM; beloved husband of the late Mary K. Bloom; loving father of Daniel R. and Gary R. Bloom; devoted grandfather of Michael Bloom, Jennifer Reaves, Rebecca Herring and James Greene. Also survived by eight great grandchildren. Family will receive friends Tuesday 7 to 9 P.M. at HARRY H. WITZKE'S FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 4112 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, where a service will be held Wednesday 11 A.M., with interment at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
