UMBC's Jeremy Blevins is the little goalie who comes up big in big games. He isn't flashy and doesn't make daring dashes down the field. He isn't spectacular in the goal, but solid. But at crunch time, there isn't a better goalie in the country. "It's not his save percentage that wows you; it's the important saves he makes at the most important times that are the most impressive to me," Maryland coach Dave Cottle said. Cottle should know. Blevins had 11 saves in UMBC's 9-8 triple-overtime win over Maryland on March 14. The Terps had a fast-break opportunity on Blevins in the first overtime, and Blevins made the save.

The UMBC men's lacrosse team sure has a flair for the dramatic. Last weekend, the Retrievers overcame a nine-goal deficit to beat Albany in the America East championship game. On a cold and damp evening yesterday in Charlottesville, Va., the drama was just as intense. Unfortunately for the Retrievers, they came up just short. No. 2 seed Virginia, behind four goals from Danny Glading and three goals from Garrett Billings, overcame a two-goal deficit in the second half to beat UMBC, 10-9, in the first round of the NCAA tournament at Klockner Stadium.

In his three seasons as the starting goalkeeper for the UMBC men's lacrosse team, Jeremy Blevins has stared down the likes of Johns Hopkins, Maryland and Princeton. His toughest adversaries, however, just might be his housemates. Blevins shares an off-campus house with five other juniors in defensemen Bobby Atwell, Brian Schneider and Steve Settembrino and midfielders Mike Burch and Alex Hopmann. Blevins and Hopmann are considered the "neat freaks" who find themselves in seemingly daily battles to keep the house clean.
