Turmeric increases the anticoagulant effect of Coumadin. I have been on Coumadin for 15 years because of an artificial aortic valve. I had read that turmeric was effective in lowering cholesterol and began sprinkling it on broccoli. My international normalized ratio went up dramatically, and my pharmacist said, "STOP!" Have there been any studies on the blood-thinning effect of turmeric? You are not the first person to report this interaction between Coumadin (warfarin) and turmeric.

Baltimore County police said Tuesday that they were looking for a love seat that was part of a sectional sofa in the home of a 23-year-old Cockeysville woman who was reported missing nearly two weeks ago. Investigators were trying to determine if there was a link between the love seat and the disappearance of Jerryell Myesha Foster of the first block of Hazy Morn Court. Police said someone may have removed the love seat from Foster's apartment and left it in a nearby trash bin, and another person may have taken the piece of furniture from the bin. That person would face no charges, according to police.

In the African-American community, women don't just get their hair cut. They get their 'dos done. Their wigs twisted. From the time they were out of pigtails or Afro puffs, most black women have treated their hair like their own personal science experiment. They've tousled with it, tugged on it, corn-rowed, cut, relaxed, locked, greased, wrapped, hot-combed, flat-ironed, finger-waved, weaved, twisted, gelled, spiked and rolled it. All that hair gymnastics makes for exciting, edgy, talk-of-the-town hair.

It has come to my attention that very few women -- with the possible exceptions of Kim Basinger and my late, great-Aunt Cora -- are satisfied with the color of their hair.I bring this up because a group of women recently gathered around my desk to talk about their hopes and dreams and how you only go 'round once in this life so you might as well go for the brass ring. Hair-color-wise, that is.Exchanging confidences about hair color -- or to be precise, about altering one's hair color -- is one of those primitive bonding experiences that women go through.
